Women’s Soccer Closes Season With 3-1 Loss At Butler

The Bluejays end the season with a 4-9-5 overall record
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Creighton women's soccer had its 2023 season come to a close following a 3-1 loss to Butler on Thursday night at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Bluejays ended the season with a 4-9-5 overall record and a 2-7-1 mark in the BIG EAST, while Butler improved its record to 6-7-6 on the season and to 2-3-5 in league play. With the victory, Butler clinched the sixth and final seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Butler opened the scoring in the 25th minute as senior Abigail Isger touched the back of the net for the third time this season. Aliya Diagne set the play into motion playing a through ball to Isger, who chipped a shot past the diving Maddie Merrick to give Butler a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would extend their lead in the 32nd minute as Butler drew a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick. Graduate student Becky Dean stepped to the spot and buried the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.
Butler added to its lead on the second goal of the match by Isger in the 62nd minute. Finding some space in the midfield, sophomore Amelie Darey fed a pass through the Bluejays defense to the running Isger, who fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to give Butler a 3-0 lead.
The Bluejays answered with a goal of their own in the 64th minute to cut the deficit down to 3-1. Junior Alyssa Judkins headed in her second goal of the season off the corner kick insertion from senior Hannah Luke.
Creighton showed no quit, battling for possession down the stretch before Butler eventually secured the victory.
Creighton ended the match with a slim 15-14 edge in shots, while also creating a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
