Omaha, Neb. -- After stopping a penalty kick in the first half, another PK started a wild second half as Creighton Men's Soccer rallied for a 2-2 draw against Omaha on Tuesday, October 3 at Morrison Stadium.
Following Tuesdays action, the Bluejays moved to 3-4-4, while the Mavericks moved to 4-3-3.
Omaha was the aggressor in the opening frame, firing nine shots to five for the Bluejays. One stretch saw the Mavericks draw a penalty kick in the 22nd minute (21:38). Omaha's Theo Klein, however, was stymied by Creighton goalkeeper Blake Gillingham. The Santa Clara transfer was outstanding throughout, collecting four first half saves and finishing with a career-high seven in the match.
The contest remained scoreless into the second half, when Omaha drew a second penalty kick in the 51st minute (50:18). This time it before Klein could take the shot tempers for both sides flared, resulting in a red card each way. Klein converted his second PK opportunity, but the goal seemed to send a bolt of energy through the Bluejay bench.
Creighton answered with a goal less than two minutes later as sophomore Sean Green headed in a corner service from senior Giorgio Probo with 51:49 showing on the clock.
The Bluejays followed a similar path in the 65th minute as Probo sent a corner kick to the head of senior Miguel Ventura for his first goal of the season.
Omaha, however, knotted the match at 2-2 in the 68th minute on a crossing shot from right to left from Junior Casillas.
Creighton closed the match with an 18-17 edge on shots and a 13-4 advantage on corners.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Saturday, October 7th in a road match at Butler. The contest is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. (CT).
