Bluejay Men's Soccer Faces Butler in a Saturday Night Fight

Indianapolis, Ind. -- With just five matches remaining in the regular season the Creighton men's soccer team looks to recapture the fire the carried the Bluejays to a seven-match win streak and the 2022 College Cup. The preceding season in 2021 the Bluejays won 5 of 6 (5-0-1) to earn an at large bid into the NCAA Tournament. Creighton want to start the final charge at Butler on Saturday.

Scouting Butler (2-6-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST)
Heading into their fourth BIG EAST contest against the Bluejays, the Bulldogs just overcame a three-game losing streak following a victory over IUPUI on the road on Oct. 3.
The Bulldogs handily beat IUPUI thanks to goals from three different Bulldog players: Palmer Ault, Ryan Hannosh, and Henri Kumwenda. Hannosh was also credited with two assists on the Bulldogs's three goal.
Ault leads the Bulldog roster with five goals on the season. Hannosh and Kumwenda both tally the only other Butler goals of the season, each posting one.
Caleb Norris, the sole goalkeeper for the Bulldogs, has allowed 16 goals throughout the season, recording a 0.758 save percentage on Butlers 2-6-1 record.
Scouting Creighton (3-4-4, 2-1-0 BIG EAST)
A fourth BIG EAST matchup in 2023 takes the Bluejays to Indianapolis to face the Butler Bulldogs on Oct. 7. Creighton will be playing its seventh road match of the 2023 season, their away contest record standing at 1-2-3.
Goalkeeper Blake Gillingham contributed greatly to the Bluejays' draw with rival Omaha on Oct. 3,
delivering a career-high seven saves. Gillingham was dynamic early and often, collecting four saves in the first half. One of those first half saves came on a penalty kick. The Santa Clara transfer has 24 saves on the season thus far, posting a 1-1-2 record while in goal.
Midfielder Giorgio Probo also made his mark on Morrison Stadium, with a pair of assists. Probo has a team-high four assists.
Heading into the contest against the Bulldogs, newcomers Andrija Savic and Miguel Arilla stand as two of the nine Bluejays who have contributed multiple goals, each posting two goals. Midfielder Alfie Pope continues to set the pace for the Bluejays with four goals.
Local Rivalry with Mavericks Always Brings It
Whether its the regular season, the spring season or just an unscheduled meeting on the pitch, when members of the Bluejays and Mavericks face one another fireworks are bound to be seen. The 2-2 draw between the two clubs did not disappoint, featuring two penalty kicks, red cards to each team and a furious second half. Early in the match the Mavericks controlled possession, earning a PK midway through the first frame. However Bluejay goalkeeper Blake Gillingham met the challenge with one of his four saves.
Early in the second half Omaha earned another penalty kick, followed by extra curricular actions that resulted in a red car for both sides. This time Omaha converted its penalty kick, but the fury ignited the Bluejays as Creighton responded with a pair of goals on corner opportunities. Omaha pulled even in the 68th minute and despite chances late for both teams the result was a 2-2 draw.
