Jestrovic Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton women's soccer freshman Anja Jestrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) earned some well-deserved recognition on Monday, Oct. 9 as the Bluejay midfielder was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Jestrovic led Creighton to a 1-1-0 record last week, recording her first points as a Bluejay with a goal and an assist. Down 2-0 on Thursday, Oct. 5 versus St. John's, Jestrovic entered the match and provided instant offense, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career in the 41st minute. Earning a penalty kick following a handball in the box by St. John's, Jestrovic stepped up to attempt the PK. St.John's denied the initial PK attempt, but Jestrovic rebounded her miss and touched the back of the net on the ensuing shot to cut the deficit in half.
On Sunday, Jestrovic earned the first start of her career and helped deliver the equalize in the second half of a 2-1 win at Villanova. The Belgrade, Serbia native notched the first assist of her Bluejay career in the 48th, delivering a cross at the near post on a free kick to senior Hannah Luke, who tapped in her second goal of the season to level the match at 1-1.
Overall, Jestrovic recorded eight total shots, including five on goal in 111 minutes on the pitch over the course of the two matches.
Jestrovic and the rest of the Bluejays return to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 12 for a home match against Seton Hall with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Morrison Stadium.
