The contest will tip 25 minutes after the end of the 12:35 p.m. consolation game between Boston College (4-1) and Loyola Chicago (2-3), or approximately 3 p.m.
• Thursday's game will be televised on CBS Sports Network, with Jason Knapp and Steve Lappas on the call. The game will also be video webcast at https://www.cbssports.com/cbs-sports-network/. Cable authorization may be required.
The game will be broadcast on the radio on 1620 the Zone and 101.9 FM The Keg, with John Bishop and Tyler Clement on the call. That webcast can also be heard at 1620thezone.com.
Live stats can be found at http://creighton.statbroadcast.com.
• Creighton is 3-2 all-time against Colorado State, but lost the most recent meeting on Nov. 21, 2021 at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands by a 95-81 count. In that contest CSU made 10 three-pointers in each half and drained 20-of-34 three-pointers overall. All-American David Roddy had 36 points, sinking 7-of-10 shots from deep, while Isaiah Stevens had 17 points and 11 assists without a turnover for the Rams. CU had four men score in double-figures, a group led by 16 points from Arthur Kaluma.
Greg McDermott is 0-1 against Colorado State and 0-1 against Niko Medved.
• With a win...
Creighton would improve to 6-0 on the season, and for the fifth time in 14 seasons under Greg McDermott, having also done so in 2011-12, 2012-13, 2016-17 and 2022-23. All of those teams went on to play in the NCAA Tournament.
- Creighton would improve to 4-2 all-time against Colorado State and 1-1 under Greg McDermott.
- Creighton would improve to 13-1 all-time in the Hall of Fame or Guardians Classic.
• Creighton reached Thursday's championship game with an 88-65 win over Loyola Chicago on Wednesday. Ryan Kalkbrenner had 29 points, including a career-high four three-pointers, while Baylor Scheierman added 24 points and 12 rebounds. Creighton shot 55.2 percent from the floor (32-58) and 51.9 percent from deep (14-27). CU's seniors combined for 68 points.
• Ryan Kalkbrenner entered Wednesday having made 10-of-37 three-pointers in his career. Against Loyola Chicago, the 7-foot- 1 center made 4-of-8 three-pointers. The Florissant, Mo., native was also 5-for-5 at the line after entering the afternoon 6-for-14 on the season.
Kalkbrenner's 29 points were the second-highest scoring output of his career, just behind the 31 he had in the NCAA Tournament vs. NC State on March 17, 2023.
• Ryan Kalkbrenner's 29 points give him 1,247 in his career, moving him past Ben Walker (1,238) and Ty-Shon Alexander (1,241) for 27th in Creighton history. With another strong game on Thursday, he could pass Gary Swain (1,254), Wally Anderzunas (1,267) and even Bob Gibson (1,272), who actually played for the Harlem Globetrotters before embarking on a Hall of Fame baseball career.
• Mason Miller spent Wednesday in Creighton's hotel due to illness, which coincided with the healthy return of fellow forward Jasen Green. Green redshirted last season, then broke his hand in practice last month. Green played just over four minutes in his debut, contributing three rebounds, two points and an assist while making his only shot attempt.
• Baylor Scheierman scored 21 of his 24 points on Wednesday before halftime. It was the most points by a Bluejay in one half since Denzel Mahoney scored 23 points in the second half at Butler on Jan. 16, 2021.
Scheierman drained 5-of-8 three-pointers in the victory. It's the sixth time in the Aurora, Neb., native's career that he's made five or more shots from deep.
Scheierman has now made at least one three-pointer in 52 straight games, the nation's second-longest active streak, and all 42 games as a Bluejay. He has made multiple three-pointers in each of his last 21 November games, and three or more three-pointers in each of his last nine November contests. The nation's only other players with three or more three-pointers in every team game this season are Cole Anderson (UC Santa Barbara), Hunter Cattoor (Virginia Tech) and Jayden Stone (Detroit).
• Speaking of Baylor Scheierman, Wednesday's game with 24 points and 12 rebounds was his first double-double of the season, and 39th of his collegiate career. Last year he ranked 25th nationally with 13 double-doubles, the most by any Bluejay since 1988-89.
If Scheierman can produce another game with 20 points and 10 rebounds on Thursday, he'll be the first Bluejay with back-to-back 20 & 10 games since Doug McDermott in March of 2014.
• Baylor Scheierman owns 1,682 points, 977 rebounds, 463 assists and has made 269 career three-pointers when you combine his Creighton and South Dakota State stats. Creighton's only other players to reach 1,000 career rebounds have been Paul Silas (1,751), Bob Harstad (1,126), Doug McDermott (1,088) and Benoit Benjamin (1,005).
• Six of Creighton's top seven scorers are shooting 41.7 percent or better from three-point range this season. The one exception is none other than All-America candidate Trey Alexander (37.5 percent), who led the BIG EAST in three-point percentage during league play last year.
As a team, Creighton shoots 42.0 percent from three-point land (top-10 nationally) while also leading the country with 13.6 three-pointers per game.
• Francisco Farabello played a season-high 31 minutes off the bench on Wednesday. He had season-highs with six rebounds and five assists without a turnover in the victory.
• As of 7:30 pm on Wednesday night, Creighton's offense was ranked No. 1 in adjusted offensive efficiency by BartTorvik.com and second in that same category per KenPom.com. Per BartTorvik.com, Creighton also ranks first nationally in two-point percentage (.676) and 10th in three-point percentage (.420), in addition to being tops nationally in free throw rate defensively (13.0) and three-point rate defensively (20.1).
• Creighton is attempting to be the first school to win the Hall of Fame Classic (or Guardians Classic, as it was previously known) three times, having also won it in 2002 and 2004. The only other teams to win it twice have been Missouri (2001, 2011), Kansas (2012, 2016) and Texas (2005, 2009).
• Since Greg McDermott's arrival in 2010, Creighton is 37-8 in regular-season tournament action with five titles in 12 completed events. The Bluejays are seeking their first tournament title since winning the Cayman Islands Classic in 2018 .
• In 1941, Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed a bill officially establishing Thanksgiving, to be held the fourth Thursday each November. And while Creighton has a lot of things to be thankful for, its record on Thanksgiving Day isn't one of them. The Bluejays are 1-2 all-time on Turkey Day.
CU's last game on Thanksgiving Day didn't go so well, losing 83-52 to San Diego State in Las Vegas in 2019. That team would go on to win a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title and finish the shortened-season No. 7 nationally.
In 2013 Creighton walloped Arizona State 88-60 in Fullerton, Calif., at the Wooden Legacy.
In 2009 Creighton lost 83-75 in overtime to Michigan at the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla.
• Creighton is coming off a trip to the Bahamas in August, which it hopes will prepare the team for early victories as past trips have done.
This year's team is off to a 5-0 start after going to The Bahamas.
A 2019 trip to Australia helped the Bluejays open the year 12-2.
A 2015 trip to Italy helped the Bluejays start the season 5-1.
A 2011 trip to the Bahamas helped get the Bluejays ready for a 7-0 start.
A 2007 trip to Canada paid dividends as Creighton started 5-0.
In 2003, the Bluejays also went to Canada and started the subsequent season 12-0.
  Â
• Here's how a Thanksgiving Day with Bluejay Basketball alumni might go.
It would start with a Jule Farmer (1957-58), who would catch a turkey and put it in the Daryl Stovall (1978-82). Add in some Jim Berry (1955-59) and Cornell Smith (1973-77) and you'll be ready to eat while you Austin Chatman (2011-14) with your family.
For dessert, have some James Pietro (1971-74) before you decide to Dustin Sitzmann (2006-09) on a Donald Davenport (1993-95) for an afternoon snooze.
That way, you'll have time to wake up early on Black Friday and Jordan Scurry (2016-20) over to Ryan Sears (1997-2001), where you will need some Connor Cashaw (2018-19) to buy some Johnny Mathies (2003-06) CD's and listen to him singing about Chris Chestnut's (1995-98) Roasting on an Open Fire.
