#17 Volleyball Sweeps DePaul; Will Face St. John's For BIG EAST Tourney Title

Bluejays win 14th straight match
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The No.17 Creighton Volleyball team will play for a conference tournament title for the 11th time in 12 years after sweeping DePaul on Friday afternoon in Milwaukee.
CU earned that spot after a 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 victory and will meet third -seeded St. John's on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the BIG EAST Tournament title in a match that will be televised on FS2. The Red Storm defeated host Marquette (11-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 15-14) in the first semifinal of the afternoon.
Creighton (26-4) dominated in the first set, never trailing in a 25-17 victory. The Bluejays hit .394 and finished with 16 kills and 18 digs to overpower the upstart Blue Demons. Norah Sis led CU with five kills while Kendra Wait added 11 assists and six digs for the Bluejays. DePaul's offense was limited to .028 hitting.
The second set was much tighter, featuring 11 ties and seven lead changes, before CU pulled away down the stretch. Holding a narrow 20-19 lead, the Bluejays scored five of the next six points to earn the 25-20 win.
The third set saw Creighton embark on a 7-0 run to build a 21-14 lead and cruise from there, capped by Ava Martin's 10th kill of the evening on match point.
SIs led Creighton with 12 kills while Martin wasn't far behind with 10. Kendra Wait had 30 assists, nine digs and five blocks and Sydney Breissinger topped CU with a dozen digs. The Bluejays finished with 45 kills, four aces, 46 digs and six blocks on .333 hitting.
All-BIG EAST selection Jill Pressly topped DePaul with eight kills. The Blue Demons had 28 kills on .085 hitting with three aces and 39 digs. The Blue Demons did not record a block.
NOTES: Creighton has appeared in a conference tournament all 21 years under Kirsten Bernthal Booth after just four appearances in nine years before her arrival ...
