#17 Volleyball Sweeps DePaul in Tune-Up For Marquette Showdown

Bluejays will look to move into a tie for first place on Sunday vs. Marquette
OMAHA, Neb. -- Juniors Norah Sis and Kendra Wait had double-doubles as No. 17 Creighton Volleyball swept DePaul on Friday afternoon inside D.J. Sokol Arena.
Scores of the match were 25-15, 25-17, 25-12.
The victory was Creighton's 23rd consecutive over DePaul in addition to being the 21st straight 3-0 victory against a BIG EAST foe in the match before playing Marquette.
Sis had 16 kills, 14 digs and a pair of aces while Wait recorded 32 assists and 16 digs while setting CU to .322 hitting. Kiana Schmitt remained near the top of the BIG EAST leaders in hitting percentage (.362) and blocks per set (1.13) after finishing with 10 kills and seven blocks on .500 hitting. The Bluejays closed the day with 46 kills, three aces, 65 digs and nine blocks on .322 hitting.
DePaul was led by Jill Pressly, though the BIG EAST kill leader was limited to seven kills and .067 hitting on 30 swings. The Blue Demons had 28 kills, one ace, 57 digs and a pair of blocks on .047 hitting.
Creighton never trailed in the opening set, though it never pulled away until the final points. Creighton owned a 17-14 lead before an 8-1 run to close out the frame. Sydney Breissinger, who had 18 digs and seven assists as CU's libero, served the final six points of the game. Sis had five kills and seven digs while Wait contributed 12 assists and six digs in the opener, which featured a combined 47 digs between the squads.
The Bluejays trailed 12-11 in the second set before a 4-0 serving run from Sis that featured three straight kills by Martin. The Bluejays ended the frame on an 8-3 run, with a kill from Sis giving CU a 2-0 lead heading into intermission. Martin had six kills and Breissinger added 11 digs in the second set as the Bluejay defense held DePaul to .000 hitting on 42 swings.
Kiara Reinhardt served CU to a 4-0 lead in the third set and the Bluejays never looked back. The margin grew to 8-2 and 18-9 before Sis' final kill finished off CU's eighth straight sweep. The Bluejays had 13 kills on 27 errorless swings in the third set, with Sis (6) and Schmitt (4) contributing for 10 of the terminations. Both Martin and Schmitt combined for three blocks in the finale, with Sis authoring a pair of aces behind the service line.
Creighton returns to the court on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it hosts No. 25 Marquette (16-8, 12-1 BIG EAST). The Bluejays can move into a tie for first place with a victory over the Golden Eagles.
