OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton women's tennis head coach Tom Lilly announced the signing of Philippa Roy, who will join the program beginning in the fall of 2024.
Roy, a native of Mountain Brook, Ala., is currently ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the state of Alabama, No. 37 in the Southeast region and No. 118 nationally by TennisRecruiting.net and owns an 8.82 Universal Tennis Rating.
As a junior, Roy guided Mountain Brook High School to the school's state-record 33rd AHSAA State Girls' Tennis Championship after claiming her third straight Class 6A No. 1 Singles State Championship. She joined elite company, becoming one of just eight ladies in the state of Alabama to win three straight high school singles state titles.
"Creighton is the perfect fit," said Roy. "On my official visit, I realized that there was something special about Creighton as soon as I arrived in Omaha and met Coach Lilly at the airport. I had an immediate connection with the campus, tennis coaches, and team. I was inspired by the rich history of the university and enjoyed the positive and hard-working atmosphere of the team practice. I am so excited to become a Bluejay!!!"
In addition to her three singles state titles, Roy has also garnered three No. 1 doubles state championships while earning the Alabama Tennis Association Female Junior Player of the Year award as a sophomore. This past summer, Roy claimed MVP honors at the AHSAA North-South All-Star Tennis Championships, after earning the No. 1 singles title.
Outside of the success at the high school level, Roy has also competed well on the national stage. Prior to her senior year, Roy claimed the singles championship at the USTA Alabama Clay Court Juniors Championships and was selected to play in the National Juniors 18s Hard Court Championships in San Diego.
"We really enjoyed Philippa on her visit and felt that she would be a great addition to our tennis family," said Lilly. "Philippa is a great student first and foremost and is someone that will fit in with our team culture. She is a dynamic player that has all the tools to keep getting better and better. I feel she will come in and be right there with our top half of the line-up and help us keep elevating the level of our program."
