OMAHA, Neb. – Scott Rissler and Olivia Thompson have been named assistant coaches with the Creighton Women's Soccer program, head coach Jimmy Walker announced on Thursday, Dec. 7. Rissler and Thompson rejoin Walker in Omaha after serving as assistant coaches at Bowling Green State.
Rissler, a native of York, Pa., joins the Bluejays staff and heads to Creighton after spending the past four years as an assistant coach at Bowling Green State under coach Walker. In his four years with the Falcons, Rissler helped garner a 36-19-11 overall record, while guiding BGSU to two MAC titles and two NCAA Tournaments.
"Scott is a really good up and coming young coach that I'm excited to add to our staff at Creighton," said Walker. "Scott is a tireless recruiter and a genuinely good guy that I trust! He has an extensive background coaching defenders and goalkeepers with the plan of working with our defensive unit in preparation for next fall."
"The tradition of Creighton's academic and athletic programs are highly regarded across the country and I'm excited to be a part of making an impact within Creighton and in the Omaha community," said Rissler. "When Jimmy extended the opportunity to join his staff once again, it was a move that made a lot of sense. He's an incredible leader, mentor, and human being with a passion for helping players discover the best versions of themselves. I can't wait to get the journey started with Creighton athletics and the women's soccer program. Go Jays!"
In Rissler's first season with BGSU, the Falcons captured their third consecutive MAC Championships outscoring their opponents 17-3 in the shortened Covid season. Under his mentorship, Lili Berg earned All-MAC and United Soccer Coaches All-Region honor while helping the BGSU defensive corps tie for first in the entire nation in shutout percentage (.750), with six shutouts in the eight matches.
In the fall of 2021, Berg once again earned All-MAC honors while Audrey Shay was an All-MAC First Team selection as the Falcons repeated their success on the pitch, winning the MAC Regular-Season and Tournament Titles with an 11-7-3 overall and 8-2-1 league record.
Prior to joining the BGSU coaching staff, Rissler's coaching experience included working with the Duquesne goalkeepers in the spring of 2020, as well as an '07 girls' team at Pacesetter Soccer Club in Sylvania. He had also worked summer camps both at Duquesne and with DC United throughout his time as a player at Duquesne.
He has earned an 11v11 Grassroots coaching license as a 7v7 grassroots license through US Soccer, along with a Level 1 GK License through United Soccer Coaches Association.
Rissler played club ball for FC York beginning at age 14 before embarking upon a standout career at Red Lion High School. He played three seasons of high-school ball, before playing for the DC United MLS Academy team during his senior season. He also played two years of varsity baseball at Red Lion.
Rissler, who was the starting goalkeeper during each of his three years on the high school team, was the only junior goalkeeper named to the all-state team by the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association in 2013, and was one of 21 players in the state named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-America Preseason Watch list in the fall of 2014.
A graduate of Duquesne University, Rissler studied forensic science while spending five seasons on the men's soccer team for the Dukes. He earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 2019, and went on to earn a master's degree in forensic science and law in 2020, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Thompson arrived at Bowling Green State last fall, where she helped guide the Falcons to a second-place finish in the Mid-American Conference with an 8-1-2 conference record. Her work on the pitch assisted in the development of four All-MAC performers, including first team honorees Isabelle Gilmore and Brynn Gardner.
"Liv has a really impressive playing background and will be a good resource for our female student-athletes that want to play at the next level," Walker stated. "Liv was a forward at the professional level and will work directly with our attacking unit. She has one of the top coaching licenses around (UEFA B) with a good background in sports performance and I'm excited for her to start working with our student-athletes."
"I am insanely proud to be a part of this coaching staff," said Thompson. "I am very grateful to the administration and Jimmy for this opportunity. Creighton is a great school with everything a team needs to be successful. I am excited to start working with the player and doing something special with this program."
Prior to joining the Bowling Green State staff, Thompson spent the 2022 season as a volunteer assistant coach and player performance coach at Florida Tech. In her one season with the Panthers, Thompson helped lead Florida Tech to an 8-6-3 overall and 5-4-1 record in the Sunshine State Conference while advancing to the championships match of the SSC Tournament.
Thompson, a native of Melbourne, Florida, spent one year coaching in her hometown at the Cardiff City LFC Academy, while also serving as the program director and coach at the Space Coast United Soccer Club.

She also was a member of the practice squad for the NWSL'S Orlando Pride in 2021-22. While at Cardiff Met WFC, Thompson helped the team to a league title, a pair of FA Cups and a League Cup.
During her professional playing career, Thompson also furthered her coaching career, serving as an academy coach with both the FC Lugano Girls Academy and Performance Center Wales.

She had five goals and 12 points as both a sophomore and senior, while earning All-South Atlantic Conference Team Honorable-Mention selection in each of her final three seasons with the Lady Railsplitters.
