Women's Basketball Earns 20th Win With 55-44 Victory at Marquette

Four Bluejay starters score in double-figures
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Creighton women's basketball team picked up its 20th victory of the season with a 55-44 victory at Marquette on Wednesday, February 22, to complete a season sweep of the Golden Eagles.
The Bluejays (20-7, 14-5 BIG EAST) led 14-12 after 10 minutes and 26-25 at the half.
The game turned in the third quarter as Creighton outscored Marquette 18-5 in the period. The Golden Eagles drew even with a free throw, but Creighton rattled off the next nine points to seize a 35-26 edge with 6:42 left. Consecutive buckets to close the quarter from juniors Molly Mogensen (Farmington, Minn.) and Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) pushed the Creighton advantage to 44-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
Late in the fourth the Golden Eagles closed within six at 50-44 (1:31), but the Bluejays hit five of six from the line to close the game out.
Morgan Maly led Creighton with 15 points while Molly Mogensen (12), Rachael Saunders (12) and Lauren Jensen (11) also finished in double-figures. Emma Ronsiek led the Bluejays with 12 rebounds while Maly hauled in 10 boards for the double-double.
Marquette (18-9, 11-7 BIG EAST) had its six-game home win streak snapped, which included a victory over No. 4 Connecticut two weeks ago. Chloe Marotta paced the Golden Eagles with 13 points.
The Bluejays close the regular-season on Monday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Butler. A victory over Butler would give head coach Jim Flanery his 400th career win as he enters Monday's contest at 399.
