Big Three Continue to Deliver for Women's Hoops as Bluejays Best St. John's, 81-65

Omaha, Neb. -- The trio of junior Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.), Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) and Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) combined for 56 points as the Creighton Women's Basketball team defeated St. John's 81-65 on Saturday, February 4.
The victory lifted the Bluejays to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in BIG EAST action, while St. John's fell to 17-5 on the season and 8-5 in conference play.
After St. John's got on the board first with a pair of free throws, the Bluejays claimed the lead with seven straight points. Jensen got Creighton on the board with a trey from the corner. Maly followed with a layup and a trey from the wing to make it 7-2 (7:06).
St. John's answered quickly, knotting the game at 12-12 (4:43). The Bluejays reclaimed the advantage with an 8-2 burst, getting contributions from senior Carly Bachelor (Topeka, Kan.) Ronsiek, junior Mallory Brake (Hastings, Minn.) and Maly to take a 20-14 edge (1:53). St. John's closed the frame with a three pointer from Jayla Everett to send the game to the second quarter 20-17.
The second quarter began with a Bluejay 12-2 run as Creighton took control. Senior Rachael Saunders opened the frame with a mid-range jumper. Maly took over with Creighton's next 10 points to give the Bluejays a 32-19 lead (7:34). Creighton's lead grew to as much as 16 in the frame at 40-24 (3:31) and the Bluejays held a 44-30 lead at the half.
The second half saw Creighton maintain at least an 11-point edge, pushing the lead out to as much as 21 at 77-56 (5:30) and 79-58 (4:43).
Maly led all scorers with 22 points, while Jensen and Ronsiek each closed the game with 17 points.
St. John's also had three scorers finish in double figures, getting 15 points from Kadaja Bailey, 11 from Jayla Everett and 10 points from Rayven Peeples.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, February 7 in a road contest at Seton Hall. That game is set to tip at 6:00 p.m.
