Bluejay WBB Looks to Sink Pirates in New Jersey on Tuesday

Omaha, Neb. -- With just six games remaining in the regular season, the Creighton women's basketball team travels to New Jersey for a single road game with Seton Hall on Tuesday, February 7 at 6:00 p.m. (CT).

Playing with a renewed passion, the Creighton Women's Basketball team took the fight to Seton Hall with a 75-53 victory on Wednesday, January 11.
Creighton jumped out to an early 9-2 edge in the opening five minutes, behind a trey from junior Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.), a mid-range jumper from senior Rachael Saunders (Iowa City, Iowa) and back-to-back jumpers in the paint from junior Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Up 9-4 moments later, the Bluejays used another 8-2 burst to stretch their edge to 17-8 with 48 second remaining in the opening frame. The final bucket of the run showed the hustle of junior Jayme Horan (Omaha, Neb.) as she saved an over-and-back turned with a behind the back pass to junior Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.) Jensen returned the ball to Horan at the top of the key, where she cashed a three-pointer.
Seton Hall responded by trimming Creighton's lead to one at 17-16 (7:25) early in the second quarter, but Maly answered with five straight points on a traditional three-point play and a pull-up jumper to give the Bluejays a 22-16 edge (5:21). Senior Carly Bachelor got free for a backcut layup on the following possession to give the Bluejays a 24-16 cushion (5:01). In the closing seconds before halftime, Creighton got another three-ball from Maly to take a 34-22 advantage into the locker room at the break.
Out of the locker room the Bluejays came out strong once more, pushing their lead to 22 points at 48-26 (7:03). This 14-4 Creighton run saw Maly deliver eight points, Jensen knock down a pair of jumpers and Ronsiek connect for an interior jumper. Creighton's lead did not dip below 20 points the rest of the game.
Maly led all scorers with 23 points, hitting 9-of-14 from the field. Three other Bluejays closed the game in double figures as Jensen finished with 15, while Ronsiek and Mogensen posted 12 and 11 respectively.
Seton Hall got 20 points Sidney Cooks in the loss, while Lauren Park-Lane delivered 14 points in the loss.
Scouting Seton Hall (15-8, 8-5 BIG EAST)
After a four-game skid in during January, the Pirates have righted the ship with victories over St. John's (68-58 on Jan. 31) and Providence (77-52) on Feb. 4. Seton Hall is a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament, but the Pirates have four games over the an eight-day stretch that could decide the season. Seton Hall plays Creighton (Feb. 7), Villanova (Feb. 11), then back-to-back against DePaul on Feb. 13 and 15.
A complete and dangerous team, the Pirates are guided by Lauren Park-Lane (19.9 ppg) and Sydney Cooks (15.2 ppg).
In the first meeting Cooks was 9-for-17 with 20 points, while Park-Lane finished with 14 points. The duo combined to take 31 of Seton Hall's 55 shot attempts.
The first meeting saw the Bluejays commit 19 turnovers, yet complete a 75-53 win over the Pirates.

Scouting Creighton (16-6, 10-4 BIG EAST)
Similar to Seton Hall, the Bluejays had a winter swoon, dropping five of seven games from Dec 4 to Jan. 4. A renewed commitment on the defensive end has helped Creighton win seven of eight.
During that stretch the Bluejays have limited opponents to 58.2 points per game. In the first 14 games, Creighton allowed 66.4 ppg.
The Creighton offense is led by the trio of Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek. The trifecta combine to average 45.9 ppg. Jensen and Maly each have scored 359 points (16.3 ppg) this season, while Ronsiek has 293 (13.3 ppg).
