Baseball to Begin Home Schedule Against BYU this Weekend

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball will open its 2023 home schedule against BYU as the Bluejays and Cougars are scheduled to begin a three-game series on Thursday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m.

Scouting the Bluejays
(2023: 4-5, 0-0 BIG EAST)
Playing a rather robust schedule, ranked sixth overall
entering play on Thursday, the Bluejays open their home schedule against BYU.
Creighton sports a 4-5 record, despite feeling as though two of three games slipped through its fingers.
Offensively the Bluejays have gotten hot starts from Nolan Clifford (.371) and Nolan Sailors (.343), but are hitting just .247 as a team.
On the bump grad transfer Justin Kleinsorge and freshman Anthony Watts have emerged with the Saturday and Sunday options, while Ryan Windham seems to have taken over as the staff ace with a 1.17 ERA in three starts.
Scouting the Cougars
(2023: 4-8, 0-0 WCC)
BYU comes to Omaha with a 4-8 mark after three weeks. The Cougars split a four-game series with Louisiana Tech to open the season, then dropped a four-game set with Louisiana. Last weekend the Cougars opened their home schedule with a series win over Omaha, but dropped a midweek battle with Utah Tech.
BYU brings a 6.86 ERA as a team, led by a 2.57 showing for reliever Sam Beck.
At the plate the Cougars have a quartet hitting better than .300, led by Ryan Sepede's .395.

On Wednesday, March 8 the Bluejays begin their home schedule against BYU ranked 7th in the WarrenNolan.com RPI and holding the sixth toughest strength of schedule.
Bluejays in Home Openers
Thursday will mark the 20th home opener for the Bluejays under head coach Ed Servais. In his 19 games at the helm, Creighton is 15-4 in the first game at home, with the last loss coming to Nebraska in 2019 (6-3 on March 26). In 2017-19 and again last season the opener was postponed or cancelled due to weather.
