Men's Golf Ties For Ninth at Robert Kepler Intercollegiate

Shaun Campbell leads Creighton with a top-20 finish
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Creighton men's golf team finished in a tie for ninth place at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday. The competition is CU's final tune-up prior to next week's BIG EAST Championship, which starts on Friday.in Hardeeville, S.C.
After an opening round 310, the Bluejays made drastic improvements during its final two loops, compiling rounds of 294 and 293 for an 897 aggregate, tied with Miami of Ohio (296-296-305=897).
Creighton was led by junior Shaun Campbell, who tied for 17th place with a 220 total. Campbell opened with rounds of 74 and 76 before a closing 70 that marked his 10th round of par or lower this season. The New Zealand native will enter the BIG EAST Championship with a team-low scoring average of 73.67.
Two-time Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree Charlie Zielinski will head to Hardeeville on the heels of a tie for 26th place. After Friday's 77 he closed with circuits of 72 and 74.
Freshman Grant Feldman also improved, completing circuits of 72 and 73 after he started with an 81. That helped the Texas native tie for 41st place.
Grad transfer Tristan Nelko also shot an 81 on Friday before putting together rounds of 74 and 76 to earn him a tie for 66th place.
Rounding out the Bluejay lineup was Jackson Thompson. He tied for 87th place after shooting 78, 82 and 77.
Competing as an individual and not factoring into the Bluejay team score was Owen Mackin, who tied for 62nd place after a 230 total that featured rounds of 80, 74 and 76.
Tournament host Ohio State (285-279-290=854), the nation's 25th-ranked team, won the event by 19 strokes over Kent State (280-293-300=873). Medalist honors went to Northern Illinois' Ben Sluzas (69-70-72=211), who defeated Ohio State's Jackson Chandler (70-71-72=213) and Kent State's Chris Vandette (69-69-75=213) by two shots.
Creighton's (310-294-293=897) ninth-place finish ranked the Bluejays second among the four BIG EAST teams in the field, just behind Butler (303-289-300=892), but ahead of both Xavier (303-305-301=909) and Villanova (303-308-306=917).
The tournament was played on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University, a par 71 layout that measured 7,455 yards. It featured 17 teams and 99 entrants overall.
