OMAHA, Neb. – Despite scoring the fastest goal in Morrison Stadium history, the Creighton women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Missouri on Sunday night in Omaha.
The loss dropped Creighton to 0-1-1 on the young season, while Missouri improved to 2-0-0 overall.
It took a mere 22 second for the Bluejays to claim a 1-0 lead, as the Tigers scored an own goal on a cross into the box by senior Gabby Grimaldi. The goal was the fastest goal scored in Morrison Stadium history and the fastest by the Bluejays since Lulu Quigley scored on a penalty kick 21 second into a match against Western Michigan on Oct. 28, 2001.
Missouri responded with a goal by Kylee Simmons on a cross through the left side of the box by Bella Carrillo in the ninth minute (8:52) to level the match at 1-1.
The Tigers would control the possession of play through the remainder of the half, taking a 2-1 lead in the 44thminute (43:07) on a goal by Mallory McGuire. Sophomore Elena Zuchowski was credited with an assisted on the play, feeding a ball into the box from just outside the 18-yard box.
Missouri continued to control possession throughout the second half and added a goal in the 70th minute to seal a 3-1 win. Zuchowski once again played part in the Tigers third goal of the match, slipping a pass through the back line of the Bluejays defense to Simmons, who one touched the pass into the back of the net.
The Tigers defense held Creighton to just three shots in the match, outshooting the Bluejays 17-3. Missouri held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks, while Terrell collected seven saves in goal.
Creighton hits the road for a three-match road trip, beginning on Thursday, Aug. 24 at Saint Louis. The contest will be available on ESPN+ with an 5 p.m. kickoff.
