Men's Basketball Opens Bahamas Trip With 108-55 Victory

Bluejays place seven men in double-figures.

NASSAU, Bahamas - Reserve centers Fredrick King and Brock Vice posted double-doubles as the Creighton men's basketball team earned a 108-55 win over Raw Talent Elite in the first of three exhibition games in the Bahamas.
Seven men scored in double-figures for the Bluejays, led by 13 points from starting center Ryan Kalkbrenner. The All-America candidate added six rebounds three blocks and two assists in 18 minutes. Like Kalkbrenner, King also made 6-of-9 shots from the field and tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds in the return to his native country. Vice, a true freshman from Memphis, had 12 points and 10 rebounds in 13 minutes while making all five of his two-point tries.
Also in double-figures for CU were Johnathan Lawson (12 points), Trey Alexander (11), Baylor Scheierman (11) and Mason Miller (10).
Creighton made 16-of-37 three-pointers and never trailed in the victory, outscoring Raw Talent Elite 48-0 from behind the arc.
Creighton led 29-15 after the first quarter, 52-31 at the half and 82-42 after three quarters.
All 16 players on the team collected at least five minutes of action, with 13 of those men scoring. Creighton won the rebound battle 66-31, forced 14 turnovers and held Raw Talent Elite to 0-for-14 shooting from downtown.
Lawson made a difference early on, coming off the bench to bury three trifectas in a span of 74 seconds to help Creighton build a double-figure margin. Kalkbrenner also scored nine points in the first quarter.
Seven different Bluejays cracked the scoring column in the second quarter, led by six points from senior Baylor Scheierman.
King scored 10 points and Trey Alexander added eight points in CU's third quarter, which featured four dunks.
The final quarter featured Creighton's true freshman accounting for 13 of those. Vice had eight points in the last frame to lead CU.
The Raw Talent Elite squad, which consisted of Bahamas players, was paced by 17 points from Jacob Jackson. Raw Talent Elite defeated VMI earlier in the week.
Creighton returns to the floor on Sunday at 10 a.m. in a game against Zalgiris, a team from Lithuania that lost 86-60 to South Carolina on Friday afternoon.
