Feldman and Zielinski tie for 11th place
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Grant Feldman and Charlie Zielinski tied for 11th place with a 1-under 215 to lead the Creighton men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational on Monday in Manhattan, Kan.
Feldman earned his first top-15 finish as a Bluejay after loops of 73, 68 and 74 for a 215 aggregate. His second round 68 featured six birdies and was the best round of the sophomore's collegiate career.
Zielinski shot back-to-back rounds of 70 before a closing 75, earning a top-11 finish at the Wildcat Invitational for the third straight year. The senior from Omaha had a pair of eagles during the tournament, including one in the second round as part of a stretch where he had four birdies and an eagle in a five-hole stretch.
Freshman Owen Price led CU in Monday's final round with a 71, which came after circuits of 72 and 74 on Sunday. That earned the Tacoma, Wash., native a tie for 19th place.
Tying for 57th was senior Shaun Campbell (74-73-78=225), while Jake Boor (75-78-79) tied for 71st in the first event of his junior campaign.
Host school Kansas State (284-273-290=847) won the tournament by five shots over Southern Illinois (287-276-289=852) to top the 15-team field. Grand Canyon's Nicky Kling (66-69-68=203) brought home medalist honors over K-State's Alex Lindstrom (73-67-66=206) in a field of 81 golfers.
The tournament was held at Colbert Hills Golf Course, a Par 72 track that measured 7,525 yards. Three of the holes were 590 yards or more in length.
The Bluejays are back on the course on Oct. 2-3 for the Big O Classic, which will be held at Club at Indian Creek in Elkhorn, Neb.
