Get ready for a Top 25 showdown on Wednesday in Storrs
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team moved to 18th in the Associated Press poll and 15th in the USA Today Coaches poll released on Monday. The Bluejays are also No. 13 in the updated version of the NET and No. 19 in the KPI.
CU won both games it played last week to stretch its winning streak to four, crushing DePaul (84-58) before upending St. John's (66-65). The victories improved the Bluejays to 13-4 on the season, and 4-2 in BIG EAST play.
Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022). CU owns 27 weeks in the AP Top 10 in its history, with all but one of those recognitions coming during Greg McDermott's tenure.
Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 131 times in program history, with 104 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 163-67 all-time as a ranked team, including a 129-55 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott's 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.
Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the top 25, joining No. 1 Connecticut, No. 17 Marquette. Seton Hall, is just outside the Top 25 and third among those "also receiving votes". The top five teams in the poll are now Connecticut, Purdue, Kansas, North Carolina and Houston.
Creighton is also one of six schools in the country with both its men's and women's teams ranked in this week's AP Top 25, joining Baylor, Iowa State, Marquette, North Carolina and Connecticut.
The Bluejays have a pair of road games this week, visiting top-ranked Connecticut on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Central before heading to Seton Hall for a game on Saturday at 11 a.m. Central. Both games will air on FS1. This will be UConn's 29th week ever ranked No. 1, but first time since the week of Feb. 2, 2009. Creighton is 0-5 all-time against teams that are atop the AP poll.
