About Marquette
Scouting #22 Creighton (16-3, 7-2 BIG EAST)
Riding a six game win streak, the Bluejays face one of the two teams that bested them in the first round of BIG EAST play. Creighton is coming off a pair of hard fought wins over Seton Hall at home and Georgetown on the road.
The trio of Emma Ronsiek, Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly lead Creighton as Ronsiek is the leading scorer with 18.4 ppg. Jensen and Maly are just a step back at 16.7 ppg an 14.7 ppg respectively.
Though not known for their defense, the Bluejays secured their 57-49 win over Seton Hall by limiting the Pirates to just 1-of-17 from the field in the fourth quarter and 27.6% in the game
(16-of-58).
Scouting Marquette (16-4, 5-4 BIG EAST)
Following an undefeated non-conference slate (11-0, Marquette found the BIG EAST waters a bit choppier. Off to a 5-4 start, the Golden Eagles have the toughest portion of the conference schedule behind them. Marquette has played Connecticut twice and already boasts a win over the Bluejays.
Similar to the Bluejays, Marquette is guided by a big three. The Golden Eagles feature senior Liza Karlen (18.1 ppg), sophomore Mackenzie Hare (15.2 ppg) and senior Jordan King (14.2 ppg).
In the first meeting of the season Marquette was shooting 50.8 from the field as a team, that number has dipped to 48.1 overall. One stat that hasn't changed is the Golden Eagles ability to rebound. Marquette averages 37.3 rebounds per game, while allowing just 30.0 boards to the opposition.
Keys To the Game on January 31 (vs. Marquette)
Rebound: The first battle saw Creighton stay close on the glass (MU 36, CU 32) and thus the Golden Eagles edge on second chance points was just 8-5. That is a must against Marquette.
40-Minute Effort: Against Georgetown and Seton Hall the Bluejays allowed their opposition to turn a double-digit deficit in the third quarter into a one possession game.
Get Karlen and Hare Out of Rhythm: Creighton must make Karlen work on both ends as was done in the first meeting and force Hare to be a jump shooter. The first game saw the duo combine for 40 points, 12 rebounds and 12 free throw attempts.
Starting Five Has Been Model of Consistency
Through the first 19 games of the 2023-24 season, Creighton has been able to start the same five (Mallory Brake, Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly, Molly Mogensen and Emma Ronsiek) for each game.
The last time a Bluejay unit started the first 20 games in a season was in 2012-13 when Creighton sent out the starting five of McKenzie Fujan, Ally Jensen, Alyssa Kamphaus, Sarah Nelson and Carli Tritz.
Flanery Closing in on 12th 20-Win Season
Entering Wednesday at 16-4, head coach Jim Flanery is closing in on his 12th career 20-win season. Flan already has more 20-win seasons than all other Creighton WBB coaches combined.

Bluejay Defense Closes Out Pirates,Yet Well Off Arena Record Set Last Season
Creighton's 57-49 win over Seton Hall on Jan. 28 was impressive as the Bluejays limited the Pirates to 1-of-17 in the final frame to preserve the win.
However it was far from the Bluejays best at D.J. Sokol Arena as Creighton bested Georgetown 75-34 last season on Feb. 18, the Bluejay defense tied the record for lowest output in a half with 13 points in the opening two quarters.
