Scouting Creighton (4-3-3, 0-1-1 BIG EAST)
The past two matches have delivered great positives and painful negatives. The Bluejays held a 2-1 lead on the road at #18 Providence with under 10 seconds remaining, only to see the Friars knot the match at 2-2 with four seconds left. Three days later against (RV) Missouri State on a neutral field the Bluejays were tied 0-0 entering the 90th minute, yet conceded the game-winning goal with 50 seconds remaining.
While the final minute of each contest brought disappointment, Creighton had #18 Providence on the ropes and nearly played (RV) Missouri State to a draw. The results this week, however, place an increased importance on getting a victory and three points against DePaul.
Playing without Miguel Arilla for the past three weeks has limited Creighton's offense. His status for Friday remains uncertain. Creighton will need leading scorer Jackson Castro (nine points on three goals and three assists) to create some offense.
In goal Creighton's Blake Gillingham is expected to remain in net. The California native has played all 900 minutes this season. He has a 1.30 GAA and has made 26 saves.
Scouting DePaul (3-4-2, 0-1-1 BIG EAST)
The Blue Demons have a win and a draw in their last two matches, battling Xavier to a 0-0 stalemate on Sept. 28. DePaul also posted a 3-1 win over Loyola Chicago, a squad that pushed Creighton to a 1-1 draw in Morrison Stadium on Aug. 29.
Coming to Omaha will mark the second trip outside the Chicagoland area this season as the only other trip took DePaul to St. Thomas (Minnesota) for a 1-1 draw on Aug. 29. DePaul has played five matches at home and played road matches at UIC, Northwestern and Loyola Chicago.
Noeh Hernandez leads the Blue Demons' offense with three goals and six assists for 12 points. Four other DePaul players have multiple goals this season, getting two from Keegan Pace, three from Logan Finnegan, two from Liam Mullins and two from George Wyatt.
In the net the Blue Demons have used Santiago Davila for each minute through nine contests.
Final Non-Conference Match Looms
The Bluejays final non-conference match of the season comes on Wednesday, October 9 as Creighton takes the short trip to Caniglia Field to face local rival Omaha.
BIG EAST Path Gets Easier, According to RPI
After opening the season against the top two teams in the BIG EAST (based on current RPI) Georgetown (#15) and at Providence (#6), the Bluejays next three matches tee up DePaul (#107) at Xavier (#37) and home against Villanova (#194).
