Scouting Creighton
The Bluejays enter Saturday's match having won five of the last six contests, helping Creighton secure the fifth seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Creighton's offense has been on fire to finish the regular season, out scoring opponents 17-8 en route to a 5-1-0 record since Oct. 9.
The Bluejays' front line received a shot in the arm against Butler on Oct. 26, delivering its highest goal output of the season in the win (6-1), before recording a 5-2 victory at Marquette in the regular season finale. The 11 goals over the two-game stretch are the most in a two-game span since Creighton recorded 12 goals across two contests to begin the 2022 season.
Directing the Bluejays' offensive attack is senior captain, Jackson Castro. The Plano, Texas native finished the regular season with nine goals, ranking tied-third in the BIG EAST, while also adding seven assists. In the Bluejays' recent contest against Butler on Oct. 26, Castro became the first Bluejay to score at least six points in a match since Duncan McGuire in 2022. Supporting Castro on offense is the sophomore midfielder duo of Miguel Arilla and Ali Ramadan. Arilla has recorded four goals and posted seven assists, while Ramadan has chipped in five goals and dished out one helper.
Between the posts, goalkeeping duties have been solely assigned to junior Blake Gillingham. The Creighton netminder has started all 17 matches this season with 1,530 minutes of action. Gillingham has grabbed 44 saves this season, while earning eight victories including four via shutouts.
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas enter the match against the Bluejays with a 8-4-5 record overall and 5-2-1 in BIG EAST play, helping earn the number four seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Georgetown was
victorious in four out of the last seven contests, also recording two ties before dropping the regular season finale at St. John's, 2-0.
Georgetown has used Shaw Field to their advantage this season, posting a 5-1-3 record while on home turf, dropping their only home contest against BIG EAST Tournament number one seed Akron. During the Hoya's nine-match homestand this season, their front line has driven home 16 goals, while only giving up five goals to opponents.
Sophomore midfielder Matthew Van Horn leads Georgetown's offense with six goals and a pair of assists for 14 points. Van Horn is accompanied by freshman forward Mitchell Baker. The Melbourne, Australia native has delivered four goals and three assists this season, including a brace in the second match of the season at Maryland, recording the only goals in the 2-0 victory. Two other Hoyas have contributed three goals each this season in Zach Zengue and Jack Heaps.
The majority of the goalkeeper duties this season have been held by junior Tenzing Manske, starting 13 matches and playing 1,159 minutes. The Georgetown keeper has collected 29 saves to earn a 7-4-2 record. Senior Luca Ulrich has also spent time in goal for the Hoyas, recording 370 minutes across four starts while snaring seven saves en route to a 1-0-3 record.
Gillingham Extends Streak to 28 Consecutive Matches
Since breaking into the starting lineup against #13 Marquette last season on September 15, 2023, goalkeeper Blake Gillingham has played every minute of the Bluejays' last 28 matches. Logging 2,520 consecutive minutes, the San Jose native has 12 combined victories and five shutouts during that stretch.
Scoring Output
Creighton's offense has taken flight in the last six contests, recording 17 goals over the span. The Bluejays' outburst has led the team to a 5-1-0 record, including key victories to clinch a spot in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The six goal effort against Butler was a season-high and the most since Creighton notched six goals four times during the 2022 season. With 34 goals this season the Bluejays notched 17 goals in the first 11 matches, then doubled that mark over the last six contests.
Helping Feet Equal Happy Feet
Not only has the goal output increased over the last six matches, the assist numbers have soared. Creighton dished out 23 assists in the last six matches, led by four from Jackson Castro, Miguel Arilla and freshman Gavrilo Civric. During the first 11 contests the Bluejays had 13 assists.
