Fast Start Pushes #21 Creighton WBB to 88-59 Win Over DePaul

Omaha, Neb. -- An early knockdown blow in the form of a 30-point opening quarter, helped #21 Creighton Women's Basketball defeat DePaul 88-59 on Saturday, February 10.
The victory was the Bluejays 10th straight as Creighton moved to 20-3 on the season and 11-2 in BIG EAST action. DePaul, meanwhile, fell to 12-14 overall and 4-9 in conference play.
The Bluejays came out firing, connecting of 7-of-8 shots to start the ballgame as Creighton raced out to a 17-5 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the opening frame. Senior Emma Ronsiek led the charge with seven of her game-high 29 points in the first minutes to force a timeout from head coach Doug Bruno.
Creighton remained hot throughout the frame, shooting 13-for-19 to take a 30-13 lead into the second quarter.
DePaul turned up its pressure in the second stanza, forcing Creighton into six turnovers in the frame, but the Bluejays extended its edge to 47-27 as the two teams went to the locker room at the half.
The Bluejays shot just 5-of-16 (31.3%) in the third quarter, but hit 8-of-10 from the foul line to head to the final ten minutes with a 66-47 advantage. Creighton poured in on in the fourth, pushing their lead out to as much as 31 points (88-57) in the closing moments.
Ronsiek finished with 29 points and six assists, while Lauren Jensen delivered 19 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Kennedy Townsend also closed the contest with double digits at 10 points.
DePaul got 17 points from Anaya Peoples, 15 from Jorie Allen and 12 points from Katlyn Gilbert.
The Bluejays return to the hardwood on Friday, Feb. 16 in a road game at St. John's set for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
