Men’s Tennis Stays Unbeaten at Home With 6-1 Victory Over Montana State

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team moved to 4-0 at home this season following a 6-1 victory over Montana State on Friday morning at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The victory lifted the Bluejays to 6-3 on the season, while the Bobcats fell to 4-3.
Creighton opened the match in dominant fashion as the Bluejays captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. Yuma Daijima and Alejandro Gandini picked up their fifth win in a row with a 6-3 win at the No.3 doubles position, while Shin Inoue and Zachary Kuo clinched the point with a 6-2 triumph on the No. 2 court.
Matthew Lanahan and Kirtan Patel were also leading 5-3 on the No. 1 doubles court before the other two had finished.
With a 1-0 lead the Bluejays quickly clinched the match with victories on the No. 2 through No. 6 singles courts.
Kuo opened singles play with an impressive 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 3 singles position, while Gandini posted a 6-1, 6-4 win on the No. 4 singles court.
Inoue then clinched the overall dual with a 6-0, 6-4 straight-sets win on court No. 5, before Daijima secure a 6-2, 6-4 win on court No. 6 for his sixth straight singles win.
Lanahan raced out to a one-set lead at the No. 2 singles spot with a quick 6-1 victory, but Montana State's Andras Necz responded with a 7-5 victory of his own to force a decisive third frame. Both players went back-and-forth until Lanahan came out with a 15-13 tiebreaking win to give Creighton a 6-0 lead.
Montana State's Dario Ciobotaru earned the Bobcats lone point of the morning, earning a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at the top singles position over Patel.
The Bluejays were scheduled to travel to Gustvus Adolphus for a match on Saturday afternoon, but that has been cancelled. The Bluejays will return to the court on Friday, Feb. 23 when they host Doane at 12:30 p.m. inside the Hanscom Tennis Center.
