Women’s Tennis Notches 5-2 Win Over Central Arkansas

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team battled to a 5-2 victory over Central Arkansas at the Hanscom Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The win moved the Bluejays record to 3-2 on the year, while the Bears fell to 3-3 with the loss.
Creighton secured the first point of the day with doubles victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Ana Paula Martinez and Elsa Jurrens combined for a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot, while Annika Elvestrom and Valerie Negin clinched the opening point with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spots.
The Bluejays continued their winning ways with wins at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles position to clinch the overall dual.
Central Arkansas' Harune Shigemasu earned a 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 singles position to level the match at 1-1, but an injury moments later on the No. 2 singles court allowed the Bluejays to regain a 2-1 advantage.
Siri Kongara followed with a 6-4, 6-3 straight-sets triumph at the No. 4 singles position to increase the Bluejays lead to 3-1.
Central Arkansas' Vichitraporn Vimuktananda would cut the lead in half with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the top singles position, before Elvestrom could clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets win at the No. 5 singles spot.
With the match already in hand, Martinez claimed a 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 three-set win on court 3 to secure the Bluejays 5-2 victory.
Creighton was supposed to return to action on Saturday afternoon, but because of an illness within the Missouri State program the match has been cancelled. The Bluejays will now return to the courts on Friday, Feb. 16 for a match against North Dakota at 12:30 p.m.
