Bluejay Baseball Faces #24 Nebraska and North Dakota State in Midweek Battles

Omaha, Neb. -- The first of three midweek battles between Creighton and #24 Nebraska bring a pair of teams with 20 victories as the Bluejays are 20-4, while the Huskers enter the game 20-5.

Scouting the Bluejays
(2024: 20-4, 0-0 BIG EAST)
Creighton enters April after sweeping a road series at Charleston Southern and having won seven of eight. In addition to three victories over the Buccaneers the Bluejays an infusion to their offense as Nolan Clifford returned from an injury that sidelined him for the last three weeks.
Clifford picked up right where he left off, going 7-for-13 at Charleston Southern. He enters the week leading Creighton with a .532 average.
As a team the Bluejays are hitting .37, led individually by Clifford and Nolan Sailors with an average of .375.
On the bump the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.40, led by an impressive 2.83 ERA from staff ace Dominic Cancellieri and a 1.96 ERA from Sunday starter Jack Pineau.
Scouting the #24 Huskers
(2024: 20-5, 3-0 Big Ten)
Nebraska enters the battle with the Bluejays on a 10-game win streak, including a weekend sweep of Northwestern to open Big Ten play.
The Huskers come to Charles Schwab Field Omaha hitting .295 as a team, led by the trio of Rhett Stokes (.348), Cayden Brumbaugh (.338) and Cole Evans (.329).
On the mound the Huskers bring a team ERA of 3.85 with 206 strikeouts in 224.2 innings.

North Dakota State won the last two games the Bison played, however that was on March 23-24. The weekend series with St. Thomas was postponed by weather.
The Bison come to Omaha hitting .236 as a team, led by Jake Schaffner at .392 and Colton Becker at .294.Â
On the mound NDSU bring a 7.45 ERA to Omaha.

Clifford Makes Triumphant Return
Returning to the field for the first time in over three weeks due to an injury on Friday, Clifford continued his blistering pace at the plate. He hit .538 (7-for-13) with six RBI and six runs scored to lead Creighton to a road sweep of Charleston Southern. The Illinois native had at least two hits in each game, collected at least one RBI and a runs scored in each contest and posted a .615 slugging percentage as well as a .600 on-base percentage.
Pressed Into Early Action, Nissen Was Sublime
Forced to come out of the bullpen in the first inning of the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday, freshman Eli Nissen saved the bullpen. Nissen entered with the bases loaded and one down, inducing a sacrifice fly and a strikeout to keep Creighton's deficit to 3-1. Nissen went on to allow just one run in five innings of relief for the win in Creighton's 10-7 victory.
Sailors and Clifford Leave Opponents Asking Which Nolan
Playing in 13 game this season, senior Nolan Clifford has delivered at least one hit in each contest. Bluejay counterpart Nolan Sailors meanwhile has a team-best reached base streak of 22 games.
Bullpen Trio Left the Buccaneers Without Any Treasure
While Eli Nissen took the ball deep into the doubleheader opener against Charleston Southern, the tandem of Daniel Woodrow and Shane Curtin closed the game with 3.2 innings of relief. Hammond stretched himself to three innings, needing just seven pitches to retire CSU in the seventh, while Curtin brought the house down by leaving the tying run at the plate at the ninth by getting the final two outs for his third save of the season.
In the second game of the doubleheader Mason Koch was stretched to 2.2 innings, tossing 31 pitches, as he notched his second save of the season. Koch struck out six in the appearance and did not allow a hit.
Bluejays Off to Best Start Since 1986
At 20-4 Creighton is off to its best start under head coach Ed Servais (2004-present). The closest season was in 2006 when the Bluejays were 16-4, including a 15-game win streak. The last time Creighton got off to a better start in 24 games was in 1986. That season the Bluejays started 21-3 under Jim Hendry.
