Bluejay Baseball Upsets #13 Coastal Carolina 7-3

Omaha, Neb. -- Down 3-0 after the top of the first, Creighton Baseball plated seven unanswered runs to upset No. 13 Coastal Carolina in the first of a two-game series on Tuesday, April 23.
The win lifted Creighton to 29-9 on the season, while Coastal Carolina fell to 27-13.singled,
Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a pair of hit batters and three consecutive RBI singles, the top of the first came to a close as shortstop Nolan Clifford jumped to snag a line drive.
In the bottom of the first Creighton responded immediately as leadoff man Nolan Sailors drew a walk and Clifford blasted an 0-1 pitch over the right field wall to make it 3-2.
Creighton pulled even in the third as Sailors, moved to second via a walk to Deters. Will MacLean delivered an RBI single to knot the game at 3-3.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh as the Bluejays capitalized on a leadoff single by Kyle Hess, two walks and a sacrifice fly by MacLean.
Clinging to a 4-3 lead in the eighth, the Bluejays got some needed insurance with three runs in the bottom half. In his first at bat of the evening catcher Hogan Helligso laced an RBI double down the left field line. Sailors and Clifford followed with RBI singles to push Creighton's lead to 7-3.
After a leadoff hit batter, head coach Ed Servais went to closer Mason Koch. The Omaha native induced a ground ball double play and a strikeout to give Creighton the win.
Reliever Tommy Lamb earned the win (4-0) with 1.2 innings of flawless relief, while Coastal Carolina reliever took the loss (1-2). Johnson allowed one run on one hit in a one-third of an inning.
Creighton got a substantial boost from senior reliever Cade Lommel as the southpaw threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Offensively Sailors and Clifford led the way as the duo combined on five hits (5-for-8) with three runs scored and four RBI.
The Bluejays and Chanticleers face off once more on Wednesday, April 24 at 6:00 p.m.
