Bluejay Baseball Faces Omaha on Tuesday

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball continues to slug through the 2024 season as the Bluejays battle Omaha and Xavier this week in four consecutive road contests.

Series History with Mavericks (Bluejays lead 60-35)
The Bluejays lead the overall series with Omaha 60-35. Since the Mavericks moved to Division I in 2012, the Bluejays are 15-8 against Omaha.
Scouting the Bluejays
(2024: 24-5, 2-1 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays continued to roll last week, claiming four wins in five games. The highlight came last Tuesday as the Bluejays upset
#24 Nebraska 5-3 in the first of three midweek contests with the Huskers.
As a team the Bluejays are hitting .308, led individually by Nolan Clifford (.438) and Nolan Sailors (.394). Four other Bluejays enter the week with an average over .300 (Teddy Deters (.327), Tate Gillen (.319), Ben North (.315), Colby Canales (.315).
On the bump the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.29, led by an impressive 1.89 and 2.35 ERA from relievers Mason Koch and Shane Curtin.
Scouting the Mavericks
(2024: 8-20, 6-6 Summit League)
After opening the season 0-12, Omaha has played .500 baseball at 8-8 including 6-6 in Summit League play.
The Mavericks enter the game with Creighton hitting .246 as a team, led by Tyler Bishop (.319) and Drew Lechnir (.303).
On the bump the Mavericks have a team ERA of 6.29. Omaha's scheduled starter is Carter Navin. He has a 16.20 ERA in six appearances this season. He has thrown 6.2 innings, allowing 15 runs on seven hits and eight walks.
Scouting the Musketeers
(2024: 15-16, 1-2 BIG EAST)
Known for consistently playing one of the toughest schedules, the Musketeers always enter BIG EAST play as a battle tested team. The 2024 squad seems poised to follow that path as Xavier holds a win over LSU this season and took the opening game of the conference season from Connecticut last weekend.
Xavier enters the week with an average of .274 as a team, led by Matt McCormick (.296), Connor Misch (.294) and Hayden Christiansne (.293).
On the mound Xaiver has a team ERA of 6.39 with 262 strikeouts in 266.0 innings.
Sailors Earns BIG EAST Player of the Week
After leading the Bluejay Baseball program to a 4-1 mark last week, Creighton junior Nolan Sailors earned the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, April 8.
Sailors closed the week 10-for-21 (.476) with nine RBI and five runs scored, guiding Creighton to four wins including a 5-3 win over #24 Nebraska on April 2. In the Bluejays' three-game series with Butler to open BIG EAST action Sailors went 5-for-12 (.417) with five RBI and three runs scored. Pushed into the leadoff and center field role for the final two games with Butler, Nolan was a catalyst atop the Creighton lineup, reaching base in eight of his 11 trips to the plate.
Facing Xavier Has Been a Bit Prickly
Creighton has a winning record against all but two teams in the BIG EAST, Xavier and Connecticut. The Bluejays are 18-19 against Xavier, and 16-19 since the two squads became BIG EAST foes. The Musketeers have taken over the all-time series with five wins in the last six meetings, including a particularly painful 27-8 loss in the BIG EAST Tournament in 2022.
The Musketeers eliminated Creighton from the BIG EAST
Tournament four times, does so in 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022.
