LINCOLN, Neb. -- Noah Jodon and Katie Roche broke school records to pace the Creighton Track teams at the Prairie Wolf Indoor Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln on Friday afternoon. All told, the Bluejay men had four first-place finishes, while the CU women compiled two of their own.
"It was a pretty solid meet for the team," said head coach Chris Gannon. "We saw improvement over last week in performances and in our competitiveness. We had a lot of PR's and two indoor school records, with Katie in the 800 and Noah breaking Ryan's 5K mark from last week. I'm looking forward to a good week of training and then Iowa State in 2 weeks."
Jodon led the Bluejay men with a victory in the 5,000 meter race as he crossed the finish line in 14:38.31. That helped him pass teammate Ryan Montera's previous school record of 14:40.0 that was set last weekend on the same track in Lincoln. Jodon's performance was also a meet record.
Montera didn't run the 5,000 on Friday, instead focusing on the 3,000 meter race. He won that event with a time of 8:30.34 to set a meet record.
CU had the top three finishes in the mile, led by senior Henry Slagle (4:23.03), who finished just ahead of freshmen teammates Diego Barron (4:25.94) and Gus Lampe (4:28.97).
Sophomore Evan Kraus (1:54.02) and junior Brian Hiltebrand (1:54.24) compiled a 1-2 finish in the 800 for the Bluejays.
Roche won the 800 in a time of 2:16.66 with junior teammate Carly Manchester taking third in the same race with a time of 2:17.33. Both times surpassed the previous program record, topping the mark set by Saige Christen last year of 2:17.38.
CU's other victory on the women's side came in the 5,000 meter race, where freshman Madeline Lage finished in 18:46.05. That edged out sophomore Claire Pyne (18:59.84), who was runner-up behind her teammate.
Taylor Rorick set a school-record in the 5K last weekend and followed that up by placing second in 10:12.93 in the 3,000 on Friday. That broke the previous meet record entering the day.
Creighton is back in action on Feb. 8th at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
