Men’s Tennis Takes Down Gustavus Adolphus, 6-1, For First Road Win of the Season

St. Peter, Minn. – The Creighton men's tennis team use a fast start, and strong singles play to defeat Gustavus Adolphus, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. to earn their first road win of the season.
The Bluejays improved to 3-1 on the year with the while, while Gustavus fell to 0-1 overall.
Creighton opened the match with a pair of victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions to earn the first point of the match. Senior Alejandro Gandini and junior Yuma Daijima paired up for a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court, while juniors Zachary Kuo and Kirtan Patel claimed a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot.
The Bluejays continued their success during singles action, picking up straight set wins at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 1 positions to seal the overall dual victory.
Kuo got things rolling with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 4 singles slot, moments before Patel claimed a 6-0, 7-5 victory at the No. 5 singles position to give Creighton a 3-0 lead. Gandini then battled to a 6-4, 7-5 win at the top singles spot to clinch the match for the Bluejays.
Freshman Rocky McKenzie followed with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 three-set triumph on the No. 6 court, before Daijima rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 2 singles spot.
Gustavus Adolphus' Josh Christensen pick up a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win on the No. 3 court for their lone win of the afternoon.
"This turned out to be a very challenging road test," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "Big shout out to our senior and No. 1 player Gandini, who injured himself at the beginning of doubles and ended up clinching the dual in singles."
The Bluejays will return to the court on Saturday, February 1 at 1 p.m. for a match against Pratt Community College at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
