Women's Basketball Drops Road Test at UNLV, 76-67

Las Vegas, Nev. -- The Creighton women's basketball team surrendered a 10-0 run at the onset of the fourth quarter and could not recover in a 76-67Â loss to host UNLV in the Thanksgiving Turkey Tip-Off on Wednesday at Thomas & Mack Center.
Following Wednesday's result Creighton felll to 1-4, while UNLV climbed to 3-3.
The Bluejays got off to a fast start, leading 21-17 after the first quarter. UNLV scored the game's first five points before Creighton responded with a 10-3 surge to grab its first lead at 10-8 on a Kennedy Townsend three-pointer. Townsend also buried a three-pointer in the final five seconds of the opening 10 minutes. The Bluejays made 3-of-5 three-pointers in the first quarter and 8-of-13 shots overall.
Creighto made five three-pointers in the second quarter and led by as much as seven points on three occasions before settling for a 40-35 advantage at the break. Elizabeth Gentry had 10 points and Townsend contributed nine points and five rebounds to lead CU in the first half.
UNLV stormed out of the locker room with the first eight points of the half to take a 43-40 lead before an Allison Heathcock three-pointer stopped the surge. Creighton didn't regain the lead again in the quarter, but were tied at 52-all. Meadow Roland had 10 points in the third quarter to lead UNLV.
Creighton scored the first points of the fourth quarter before the Lady Rebels unleashed a 10-0 run. The Bluejays got within five points three different times, but a dagger three-pointer by Roland with 31.4 seconds left gave UNLV an insurmountable 72-64 lead. The Lady Rebels were a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in the fourth quarter while also making 10-of-11 foul shots.
Creighton had four women score in double-figures, led by a career-high 17 points from Townsend, a career-high 13 from Nelieigh Gessert, 11 by Allison Heathcock and 10 by Gentry.
Roland topped UNLV with 25 points and 12 rebounds, including 21 points after the break.
Creighton is back in action on Friday at 2:00 pm Central when it meets Northern Arizona in the UNLV Thanksgiving Turkey Tip-Off.
