#23 Bluejay WBB Defeats DePaul 83-74

Jensen Closes with 28 Points, Mogensen Eclipes 1,000-Point Mark
Chicago, Ill. -- In a performance that saw senior Molly Mogensen eclipse the 1,000-point plateau, #23 Creighton Women's Basketball also got 28 points from senior Lauren Jensen in an 83-74 win at DePaul on Sunday, February 23.
The win lifted the Bluejays to 23-4 on the season and 15-1 in BIG EAST play, while DePaul fell to 12-17 overall and 8-10 in conference action.
Both teams shot the ball well in the opening moments, leading to a 14-14 tie with under two minutes remaining. DePaul rattled off eight straight points to seize a 22-14 advantage, but Creighton closed the frame with a backcut layup from Kennedy Townsend to send the battle to the second quarter with the Bluejays down 22-16.
Down 29-23 midway through the second (5:13), Creighton turned the game with an 11-2 surge to take the lead at 34-31 (2:00). Morgan Maly and Jensen got the Bluejays into flight with a jumper (Maly) and a layup (Jensen) to get within two at 29-27. After a DePaul bucket, Mogensen delivered two from the charity stripe, the junior Kiani Lockett gave the Bluejays the lead with a traditional three-point play. Jensen capped the run to put the Jays up three (34-31).
DePaul answered with a traditional three-point play of its own and the squads caught fire once more to push the score to 38-38 (0:43). Jensen sent the Bluejays into halftime up 41-38 by banging a deep trey with 11 seconds left in the half.
The Blue Demons reclaimed the advantage early in the second half and held a 51-50 edge with 3:58 remaining in the third period. The Bluejays, however, locked up DePaul in the final four minutes to go on a 12-2 burst and take a 62-53 lead into the fourth. Townsend contributed five of Creighton's 12 points during the run, while Jensen had four and Mogensen connected from long range.
Creighton pushed its lead to as 17 (77-60) with 4:12 remaining and coasted to the win.
Jensen led all scorers with 28 points, while Maly finished with 15. Brake and Mogensen each reach double digits with 11 points in the win. DePaul got 26 points from Taylor Johnson-Matthews and 22 from Jorie Allen in the loss.
The Bluejays are back in action on Thursday, February 27 in a critical game against #5 Connecticut in Hartford at 6:00 p.m. on CBSSN.
