Dix averaged 14.4 PPG at Iowa last year
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team made its third major splash in the transfer portal this week, adding Iowa transfer Josh Dix on Saturday. A 6-foot-6 guard, Dix hails from the Omaha suburb of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Dix averaged 14.4 points per game last season while starting all 32 appearances. He made 65 three-pointers, connecting at a 42.2 percent clip, and also boasted an impressive 89/27 assist/turnover ratio. Dix shot 50.7 percent from the field, ranking seventh in the Big Ten and tops among all guards.
"I am thrilled that Josh is coming home to be a Bluejay,!" said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "His ability to play on or off the ball is exactly the versatility we were in search of. His tireless work ethic will enhance our culture from the time he arrives on campus. I can't wait to coach him!"
In 2023-24 Dix garnered Honorable Mention All-Big Ten acclaim by the media after averaging 8.9 points per game and shooting 42.1 percent from deep. That sophomore season also saw him win the team's Most Improved Award and be a co-recipient of the Best Defensive Player and Kenny Arnold Hawkeye Spirit Awards, in addition to being an Academic All-Big Ten choice.
Dix owns 826 points, 200 rebounds and 176 assists against just 62 turnovers in 97 career games, which includes 52 starts. He has made 51.4 percent of his field goal attempts, including 41.9 percent marksmanship from three-point range and 79.8 percent of his free throws. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.
As a prep, Dix was a three-year captain and three-time all-conference pick at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. He averaged 20.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game as a senior. As a junior, Dix was named First Team All-State and City Player of the Year after contributing 19.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Dix is the third player to sign with Creighton this week, joining Charlotte transfer Nik Graves and Dix's teammate the past two seasons at Iowa, Owen Freeman.
Creighton finished its 2024-25 season with a 25-11 record and are one of four teams nationally to win an NCAA Tournament game each of the past five seasons.
