Karmazin Leads Women's Golf at Stampede at the Creek

Jays take sixth place in final tune-up before BIG EAST Championships
ELKHORN, Neb. -- Freshman Julia Karmazin earned the first Top 10 finish of her career to lead the Creighton Women's Golf team to a sixth-place finish at Stampede at the Creek, which concluded on Tuesday in Elkhorn.
Karmazin finished sixth with rounds of 76, 76 and 77 for a 229 total. Prior to this event, her best previous finish had been a 15th place showing at the Big O Classic last fall. Karmazin moved from third to first on the team in scoring average with her performance, as she now owns a 77.91 average.
Junior Morgan Becker tied for 16th place with a 237 aggregate after she turned in loops of 82, 74 and 81. Her scoring average moves to 78.04.
Sophomore Katharine Marshall shared team-best honors with a final-round 77. Combined with her circuits of 82 and 80 on Monday, Marshall tied for 24th place with a 239 total.
Sophomore Annie Dawson started the tournament with an 87 before regrouping with rounds of 80 and 83 to tie for 38th with a 250 overall.
Sophomore Karsen Morrison finished 47th with a 256 total after loops of 88, 86 and 82, while freshman Kinsley Smith (96-84-83=263) tied for 54th place overall.
Competing as an individual and not factoring into CU's team score was sophomore Abby Aeschleman (88-88-84=260), which tied her for 52nd.
South Dakota (306-309-299=914) won the tournament by four shots over Summit League rival North Dakota State (309-304-305=918). NDSU's Elise Hoven (76-74-75=225) won the tournament by one shot over Omaha's Katie Ruge (79-75-72=226), who drove the green on her final hole but three-putted to fall one shot short.
The tournament consisted of seven teams and 56 competitors. The Club at Indian Creek course measured 6,117 yards on its Par 72 layout as the teams played the Black Bird and Gray Hawk rotation.
Up next for the Bluejays is the BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP. That will take place April 19-21 in Hardeeville, S.C., at RIverton Point Golf and Country Club.
