Kutner Wraps Up Time at U.S. Amateur

Rising sophomore pars nine of his final 10 holes
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Jacob Kutner's run at the U.S. Amateur is over after the rising sophomore at Creighton missed the cut from 312 players to 64 on Tuesday. Kutner, who was tied for 281st place after an opening-round 80 Monday on the Lake Course at The Olympic Club, wrapped up his time in San Francisco with a second-round 84 on the Ocean Course on Tuesday.
Kutner started on the 10th hole of the Ocean Course on Tuesday. Much as he did Monday n the Lake Course, the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. native didn't play his best until his final nine holes of the day. Kutner was 14-over par in his first eight holes, then parred nine of his final 10 holes to finish with an 84.
Kutner's 164 aggregate tied him for 308th in the field and was 21 shots behind the 143 total that was needed to make the cut. The remaining 64 players begin match play on Wednesday. Oklahoma State All-American Preston Stout led all players with a 132 total (-8) in stroke play after following up Monday's 67 with a 65 on Tuesday.
The Lake Course measures 7,185 yards on its Par 70 layout. The Ocean Course is also a Par 70, but measures 6,825 yards. Notable past events at The Olympic Club include five U.S. Open's (1955, 1966, 1987, 1998, 2012) and three previous U.S. Amateurs (1958, 1981, 2007).
A product of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Kutner played in six rounds during his freshman campaign at Creighton in 2024-25, averaging 77.83 strokes per round. He shot rounds of 78, 73 and 86 to tie for 51st at the Tommie Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), then compiled loops of 74, 74 and 82 to tie for 82nd at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational (March 31-April 1).
Kutner was the third Bluejay in the past five years to qualify for the U.S. Amateur, joining Jackson Thompson (2021) and Charlie Zielinski (2022). Both men missed the cut, as Thompson shot a 79-83=162 while Zielinski fired a 73-79=152.
Notable past champions of the U.S. Amateur include Arnold Palmer (1954), Jack Nicklaus (1959, 1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1994, 1995, 1996) and Bryson DeChambeau (2015).
