Scouting Michigan (1-0-1)
After ending the 2024 season with a 9-5-7 record, the Wolverines began their 2025 campaign with two consecutive home matches. They split the decision with a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame before bouncing back to claim their first victory of the season, 2-0, against UC Riverside.Â
Firepower from two graduate students gave the Wolverines their three goals over the last two matches. The equalizer goal against the Fighting Irish was punched in by Shuma Sasak, a newcomer to the Michigan roster this season.Â
Quin Rogers, a graduate veteran for the Michigan squad, took care of the Wolverines' two other goals against UC Riverside. Prior to sitting out the 2024 season due to injury, Rogers served the Wolverine offense well, delivering two goals in 2023, two in 2022 and one in 2021.
Goalkeeper Isaiah Goldson also functions as a fixture of the Michigan lineup. The junior netminder played all 90 minutes in both matches this season, recording two saves. Last season, Goldson racked up a 6-4-6 record in the net, tallying 67 saves over 1,440 minutes.
Notably absent from the Wolverines' roster is Jason Bucknor, who recorded a team-high and career high seven goals in 18 games in 2024
Scouting Tulsa (0-1-1)
The Golden Hurricane faced tough opponents and were left scoreless both times to open the 2025 season, first fighting to a scoreless draw against CSUN at home and then dropping a 0-1 decision to Cal State Fullerton just days later.Â
Though Tulsa was left without a goal to open their scoring account, the Golden Hurricane combined for a 22-16 edge in shots taken over their first two outings.Â
Four of those shots came from the foot of Gijs Hovius, a returner to Tulsa's lineup and the second most successful offensive threat in 2024. The forward accounted for two goals and one assist on 16 shot attempts in the 2024 season, his first year at Tulsa.Â
Hovius' offensive prowess came second only to Camila Vargas, who is absent from the roster in the 2025 season. The then-senior led the Golden Hurricane in 2024 with four goals in 14 appearances.Â
Between the posts for the Golden Hurricane this season is Carlito Saylon. After making three appearances for 270 minutes and posting eight saves in the 2024 season, Saylon has played all 90 minutes in each of Tulsa's first two contests this season, recording four saves and allowing one goal.
Heading into their matchup with the Bluejays, the Golden Hurricane are well-acquainted with their opponent. The two teams have gone head-to-head 33 times since 1991. The Bluejays hold a 20-9-4 edge, and in their most recent matchup, Creighton came out on top with a 3-0 victory.
Scouting Creighton (0-1-1)
Battling both a tough schedule and the challenge of blending the talent of newcomers and veterans on the pitch, the Bluejays came up short in a loss against FAU and fought to a draw 1-1 against FIU in their first two outings of the season.Â
In their season opener on the road against FAU, two goals from the Owls in the first half and a security goal in the second put a win out of reach for Creighton, though the Bluejays matched up evenly 13-13 in shot attempts and held the edge 5-4 in corner opportunities.
Traveling an hour south to FIU three days later, the Bluejays contended with several weather delays throughout the match before closing their Florida campaign with a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes. The Bluejays held an 11-10 shot edge and tallied threeÂ
corner opportunities against the Panthers.
Creighton's lone goal, and the match equalizer, came off the foot of veteran midfielder Miguel Arilla, who capitalized on the Bluejays' two-man advantage and scored the first goal of the season.
Arilla, who made a significant offensive impact for the Bluejays last season with four goals and seven assists in 15 outings, will remain a stronghold of the Creighton offense this season. The junior already posted one goal and five shots over town matches, playing 110 minutes.
With former goalkeeper Blake Gillingham missing from the roster, the Bluejays elected Matthew Hudson to take care of the job between the goalposts. Playing all 180 minutes this season, Hudson allowed four goals but executed two saves over the two contests.Â
Savic's Consecutive Minute Streak Snapped by Red Card
After recording 3,061:30 consecutive minutes on the pitch entering the 2025Â
season, junior defender Andrija Savic's streak snapped in the Bluejays second matchup against the FIU Panthers on August 24.Â
Savic played all 1,620 minutes for the Bluejays in 2024 as well as the final 1270:17 of the 2023 season.
Seeing action in the first 171:13 of the 2025 season he pushed his total over 3,000 consecutive minutes.Â
Fortress Morrison
Creighton is 166-40-28 overall at Morrison Stadium (opened in 2003), which includes a 5-3-2 mark last season.
The Bluejays are 14-3-5 during home-openers at Morrison Stadium, including a 0-0 draw with Florida Atlantic last season.
Rare Road Trifecta to Open 2025
Friday's road match at Michigan marks the first time since the 1985 season that Creighton opens a season with three consecutive matches away from home. During that season the Bluejays played two road contests followed by a neutral match. The last and only other time the Bluejays opened a season with at least three consecutive road contests was in 1984. That season Creighton started with four road matches before playing in Omaha.
