Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Play at Creighton/Omaha Invite with 12 Victories

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team registered 12 victories and captured three main draw titles during the final day of the Bluejays co-hosted Creighton/Omaha Invite at the Koch Family Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Bluejays claimed two doubles round robin main draw titles as Teresa Tran and Olivia Minikel claimed the Flight E doubles title with a 6-0 win over Gustavus Adolphus' De Young and Davis. Annika Elvestrom and Elsa Jurrens also captured the Flight F doubles title after grinding out a 7-5 victory over Gustavus' Brakhage and Rosenhan on Saturday.
Sophie Schwartz and Mithila Dixit earned a runner-up finish after combining for a 6-2 win over North Dakota's Li and Schulte in Flight A on Saturday.
In singles play, Creighton racked up nine wins, claiming the Flight D singles championship and a pair of runner-up finishes.
Elvestrom and Philippa Roy split the singles title in Flight D after advancing to the finals with wins over Nebraska Kearney's Clare Platchy and Oral Robert's Milana Bozhko. Elvestrom topped Platchy 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets, while Roy picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bozhko in the semifinals. Roy then cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Platchy and Elvestrom claimed a 6-3, 6-0 win over Bozhko in an extra draw.
Schwartz fell narrowly in the Flight A title match, dropping a heartbreaker to Omaha's Nina Wiese, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) after capturing a 7-8 (8-6), 6-1 win over the Mavericks Katelynn Kock in the semifinals.
Tran also reached the Flight C finals by winning in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, during a semifinals match with South Dakota's Kayleigh Didderiens before falling in a 10-point tiebreaker to North Dakota's Jule Schulte in the Finals. Tran won the opening set of finals, 6-3, but dropped the second set 6-4, forcing a deciding third frame. In the final frame, Schulte edged out Tran for the title in extra point, 11-9.
Freshman Livia Rodrigues Daud fought through the back end of Flight E to claim the consolation championship. Daud rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Gustavus' Maya Brakhage, before closing out the weekend with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Ella De Young in the consolation finals.
Additionally, sophomore Karli Vo rallied from a set deficit to defeat South Dakota's Natalia Alves De Lima, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5, in a consolation match.
Creighton will return to the courts for the ITA Regionals, hosted by Oklahoma on Oct. 16-20.
