New York, N.Y. — Creighton men's soccer collected multiple conference accolades this week as freshman goalkeeper Matthew Hudson was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, while juniors Miguel Arilla and Matthew Reed earned spots on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Hudson continued his stellar debut campaign with his fifth clean sheet in the last six matches and his second straight shutout in BIG EAST play, helping the Bluejays to a 2-0 win at DePaul. The rookie standout tallied four saves, all within the first 15 minutes of the second half, while facing 17 total shots from the Blue Demons, including 12 after halftime. Hudson enters the week riding a scoreless streak of 299 minutes and 56 seconds, the longest of his young career.
Arilla powered the Bluejay attack against DePaul, extending his team lead in goals to four with a successful penalty kick in the 16th minute (15:24). He added an assist in the closing seconds, bursting down the right side before delivering a cross to Reed for Creighton's second goal of the match. Arilla finished with five shots, consistently driving the Bluejay offense.
Reed, Creighton's captain, anchored the back line and played a key role in securing the team's fifth shutout in the last six outings. The junior limited DePaul to just five shots in the opening half, then helped withstand a surge of 12 second-half attempts to preserve the clean sheet.
