LINCOLN, Neb. -- Anika Nettekoven was part of a pair of record-setting performances as the Creighton Women's & Men's Track teams continued to show improvement at the Prairie Wolf Invitational on Friday inside Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
Nettekoven won the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:53.33, breaking Carly Manchester's previous mark of 2:57.17 by nearly four seconds. Manchester and Nettekoven, along with Quinn Hays and Alexis Huddin, were also part of CU's record-breaking 4x400 relay team that placed fourth in 4:02.07. Nettekoven already owns CU's indoor records in the 600 and 800.
Manchester (2:16.34) and Reyna Heisserer (2:16.39) ran 1-2 in the women's 800, while Katherine Soule (18:06.29) and Kaylee Tobaben (18:08.29) finished second and third in the 5,000 meter race. Bella Gomez (1:01.74) paced five Bluejays in the 400 with a fourth-place showing, Natalee Gehred's season-debut in the 200 saw her finish 10th in 26.70, and Scarlett Pearlman took 12th in the 3,000 with a time of 11:15.34.
On the men's side, four different Bluejays won an event.
Noah Jodon topped the field in the mile as he crossed the finish line in 4:15.20. Matthew Lindgren won the 1,000 meter race with a time of 2:30.11.
Creighton also had the top two finishers and three of the top four in both the 3,000 and the 800. Oliver Annus won the 3,000 in 8:30.88, just ahead of teammates Owen Marett (8:42.18) and Jonathan Lukas (8:58.91). Jake Ziebarth won the 800 in 1:52.50 to edge out Evan Kraus (1:53.87) and Michael Bianco (1:56.68).
Other top performers in each event for the Bluejay men included Kyle Nelson taking fourth in the 400 with a time of 51.68, Lucas Bossinger (15:17.84) taking sixth in the 5,000 meters and Brian Hiltebrand (1:23.94) taking second in the 600. Additionally, Logan Piper (23:06) was fifth in the 200 and the 4x400 relay team of Gabe Hamilton, Nelson, Bianco and Lindgren was fourth in 3:27.36.
"Had some really good performances, especially from a few freshmen who broke out a bit," said head coach Chris Gannon. "This week will be about trying to get some good workouts in while navigating the challenges of the weather and then back to Iowa State in two weeks."
Creighton is back in action in two weeks at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Feb. 6th.
