Men's Golf Opens Spring in Third Place at Savannah Intercollegiate

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Top 10 finishes by Grant Feldman and Gavin Gerch helped the Creighton men's golf team to third place at The Savannah Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Sunday in Savannah, Ga. The tournament was Creighton's first of the spring.
Feldman tied for fourth place with a 219 aggregate following rounds of 70, 73 and 76. It's his eighth career Top 5 finish and 11th Top 10 finish in 43 career events.
Gerch placed sixth for his second career Top 10 finish, and first of his sophomore campaign. The Lincoln native was alone in first place following a 5-under 67 in the first round, which came on his birthday. He followed that up with loops of 75 and 78 for a 220 aggregate.
Junior Brock Kuhlman tied for 33rd place with circuits of 74, 75 and 77 for a 226 total. His 37 pars in the tournament were tied for fourth-most among all players.
Owen Price tied for 38th place with a 227. The junior shot an even-par 72 to open the tournament, then put together scores of 76 and 79.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up was Jacob Kutner. The sophomore opened with consecutive 77s before a final round 79 that left him in a tie for 63rd place at 233.
Creighton tied for third place in the field of 18 teams. The Jays led the competition with a 283 on Saturday morning, then turned in a 299 and 310 for an 892 total. West Georgia (297-292-299=888) won the tournament by two shots over Iona (288-298-304=890), while Creighton (283-299-310) tied for third place with Longwood (293-298-301=892). BIG EAST member Villanova (298-299-303) finished ninth with a 900 total.
West Georgia's Milton Wallin (71-71-73=215) and Longwood's Hunter Swidzinski (71-72-72=215) shared medalist honors by three shots over Fairfield's Rasmus Ditzinger (71-72-75=218) among the tournament's 108 competitors.
The tournament was held at the Club at Savannah Harbor, a Par 72 course that measured 7,131 yards.
The Bluejays are back in action in a month at the UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, Calif., from March 22-24.
