Women’s Tennis Soars Past Gustavus Adolphus, 6-1, in Home Opener
2/8/2026 1:37:00 PM | Women's Tennis
OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team won its third match in as many days, cruising to a 6-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus in the Bluejays home opener on Sunday morning at the Hanscome Tennis Center.
With the win, the Bluejays improved to 4-2 on the year, while Gustavus dropped to 6-2 overall.
"This was a solid weekend for our team," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We had a lot of illness flying around the past two weeks, so to come away with 4 wins, three of which were 4-3, shows some grittiness and that is a great quality. We will rest up for a few days and look forward to two more tough opponents at home next weekend."
The Gusties opened up an early advantage in doubles, picking up a 6-2 win at the top doubles spot. Creighton, however, rallied for victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots to claim the first point of the match.
Senior Annika Elvestrom and sophomore Olivia Minikle captured a 6-2 win on the No 2 doubles court, before junior Elsa Jurrens and sophomore Karli Vo clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Creighton continued its dominant performance into singles play, earning straight-set victories at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions.
Jurrens got the Bluejays started with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 6 singles spot, while freshman Livia Rodrigues Daud rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory on the No. 4 court to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.
Minikel followed with a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets triumph at the No. 3 single spot to clinch the overall dual for the Bluejays.
Gustavus' Lanie Davis captured the Gusties lone win of the match, claiming a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 singles spot.
Teresa Tran followed with a 6-1, 6-7, 10-8, three-set win on the No. 1 singles court to make it 5-1, before Elvestrom captured a 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) straight set win on the No. 2 singles court to close out the victory.
Creighton will return to the courts on Friday, Feb. 13 when they host former MVC rival Northern Iowa at 12:30 p.m.
