Jack Pineau Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Coming off a 2-1 win over Gonzaga in the series opening game on Saturday, March 7, Creighton ace Jack Pineau was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 9.
Pineau scattered four hits over six scoreless innings to earn the win over the Zags in a 2-1 contest. He collected his second win of the season, notching six strikeouts. PIneau out dueled Gonzaga starter Zach Bowman, who limited Creighton to two run on four hits in eight innings.
The win lifted Jack to 2-0 on the season, lowing his season ERA to 3.60.
Bluejays Playing Things Close to the Vest
Entering the series at Tulane, Creighton has played eight one-run games in 12 contests. The Bluejays at 4-4 thus far, including six of the last seven games.
Ties to the Green Wave
Two members of the Creighton Coaching Staff, Mark Kingston and Billy Mohl. As an assistant and associate head coach for the Green Wave from 2002-08. During his tenure he recuited Billy Mohl to play for Tulane. Mohl played for the Green Wave from 2003-06.Â
The tandem helped lead Tulane to the 1995 College World Series in Omaha.
Kingston and Mohl went on to coach together at Tulane (2007-08), Illinois State (2010-14) and South Florida (2015-17). The duo reunited last season at Creighton.
