
Men's Basketball to Open vs. Rutgers in College Basketball Crown

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team will face Rutgers on April 2 as part of the College Basketball Crown. The quarterfinal round game will tip off at 9:30 p.m. Central take place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., and be televised on FS1.
Should Creighton defeat the Scarlet Knights, the Bluejays will face off against the winner of Stanford vs. West Virginia on Saturday, April 4, at 3 p.m. Central on FOX in the semifinal round at T-Mobile Arena. The final will take place on April 5 at 4:30 p.m. Central, also on FOX from T-Mobile Arena.
The tournament begins on Wednesday, April 1, when Oklahoma faces off with former Big 12 rival Colorado at 7 p.m. Central, followed by Baylor vs. Minnesota at 9:30 p.m. Central. Both games will be televised on FS1.
Creighton is 15-17 this season after finishing fifth in the BIG EAST Conference. BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award recipient Josh Dix (13.0 ppg.) leads Creighton in scoring and is tied with Austin Swartz (10.9 ppg.) for the team-lead with 64 three-pointers made. Nik Graves (4.3 apg.) paces the squad in assists, while Jasen Green (6.1 rpg.) owns the rebound lead. CU is 1-2 in games played in Las Vegas this season, defeating Oregon on Nov. 27 inside Michelob ULTRA Arena as part of the GEICO Players Era Men's Championship.
This marks Creighton's 43rd all-time postseason appearance, but first in the College Basketball Crown event that just started last season. The Jays are 37-44 all-time in the postseason, going 21-27 in 26 NCAA Tournament trips, 9-12 in 12 NIT appearances, 4-2 in one trip to the CBI, 2-1 in one CIT appearance and 1-2 in two years at the National Catholic Invitational Tournament. Creighton is one of 11 schools to have appeared in every postseason since 2015-16.
Creighton is 1-0 all-time against Rutgers, posting an 85-75 win on Nov. 23, 2015 at the Men Who Speak Up Main Event in Las Vegas. Ironically, the facility that hosted that game, MGM Grand Garden Arena, is the same venue that will host this year's postseason tilt.
Rutgers is 14-19 so far this season, including a 4-12 mark away from home. Like Creighton, Rutgers went 1-2 at the GEICO Players Era Men's Championship in November in Las Vegas. Tariq Francis (16.9 ppg., 2.9 apg., 1.1 spg.) leads RU in scoring, assists and steals.Â
