OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton's Morgan Becker and Julia Karmazin have been named BIG EAST Female Golfers of the Week, the league announced on Thursday, March 26th.
Both women were key contributors on Monday and Tuesday at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate in Litchfield Park, Ariz., as the Bluejays set modern program records for best team round, best 54-hole score and Karmazin tied the program record for best round by an individual.
Becker had rounds of 69, 73 and 72, while Karmazin authored loops of 75, 72 and 67. Their 54-hole totals of 214 were one shot behind the best marks in program history.
A senior from Fort Worth, Texas, Becker's 69 in the opening round was CU's third-best score since 2003, and matched the best round to open a tournament.
Karmazin is a sophomore from Omaha who tied the program record with a third-round 67 that featured five birdies in her first nine holes of the morning. This is her second BIG EAST Golfer of the Week recognition of the spring, also having been honored on February 5th.
CU's 874 aggregate over 54 holes was a dozen shots better than its previous low since 2003-04, done Sept. 12-13, 2022 at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial. It included scores of 291, 296 and 287. Monday's opening 291 tied the previous best team round, first done April 18, 2023 at the BIG EAST Championships, before smashing that mark by four shots on Tuesday.
