
Women’s Tennis Heads to BIG EAST Championships With No. 7 Seed, Opens Play Against Butler

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team earned the No. 7 overall seed for the upcoming 2026 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by JEEP in Cayce, S.C., the league announced on Monday afternoon. The Bluejays will open tournament play on Thursday, April 16 at 8 a.m. Central against 10th-seeded Butler.
Creighton wrapped up the regular season with a 13-6 record, including a 2-2 mark against BIG EAST opponents. The Bluejays lone BIG EAST wins this season came versus Marquette (4-3) in Milwaukee on January 30 and against Providence (7-0) in Orlando, Fla. on March 10.
Butler enters the postseason sporting a 5-17 overall record and a 0-4 mark in BIG EAST play, having dropped league matches to UConn (4-3), DePaul (6-1), Marquette (4-3) and Xavier (7-0).
Creighton and Butler have met in the BIG EAST Tournament once with the Bluejays posting a 4-1 victory in 2017. Butler, however, holds a 3-1 lead in the series since the Jays joined the league prior to the 2014 season.
Senior Annika Elvestrom leads the Bluejays with 18 victories this season. The Minnesota native has claimed 11 singles wins, mainly at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, while also teaming up with Olivia Minikel, Karli Vo and Livia Rodrigues Daud for seven doubles victories.
Freshman Teresa Tran has had quite a debut season, ranking second on the team with 17 total victories, including a team-high tying nine doubles wins with fellow freshman Mithila Dixit. In addition, Tran has also claimed eight singles wins across the top four singles positions.
Sophomores Alem Cote and Sophia Schwartz have also contributed to the Jays success this season. Cote and Schwartz have each combined for 16 to wins with Cote earning a team-high 12 victories across the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots.
The Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the BIG EAST Tennis Championships for the eighth consecutive season. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that holds a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators.
Seeding for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular season schedule, ITA ranking, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
