
Audrey Gilman Wins Second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honor

Kaelan Schultz also nabs a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll
OMAHA, Neb. – Freshman Audrey Gilman was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, and junior Kaelan Schultz earned a spot on the weekly honor roll as the BIG EAST handed out its final weekly honors of the season on Monday afternoon.
This is Gilman's second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week plaudit of the season, as she was also recognized on April 20.
A freshman from Kampsville, Ill., Gilman posted a 1-0 record across four appearances, logging a team-best 2.05 ERA and eight strikeouts in 13.2 innings of work as the Bluejays closed out the regular season with a series win over DePaul.
Gilman was nearly flawless in her lone start, improving to a perfect 10-0 in BIG EAST play after allowing just one run on four hits in a 2-1 complete-game win over the Blue Demons on Friday. She then fired 1.2 innings of hitless ball to help the Bluejays secure a 9-3 win and clinch the overall series over DePaul on Sunday.
Overall, Gilman has shined in her first season with the Jays, leading the BIG EAST with a perfect 10-0 record in league play. She recorded a 4.12 ERA in league play, ranking fourth with 47 strikeouts and third with 83.1 innings pitched.
Gilman currently leads the Bluejays with 15 wins, 90 strikeouts and a 4.33 ERA in 166.2 innings of work this season. Her 15 wins this spring are the most by a Bluejay freshman since Becca Changstrom recorded 18 wins during her freshman campaign in 2011.
In addition, Schultz nabbed a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after pacing the Bluejays with a .462 (6-of-13) batting average with three doubles a home run and two runs scored. The standout junior posted a .462 on-base percentage and a .923 slugging percentage, recording an extra-base hit in all three games of the Bluejays series win over DePaul.
Gilman, Schultz and the rest of the Creighton softball team will open postseason play on Thursday as the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championships, Presented by JEEP. The Bluejays will meet second-seeded UConn at 3 p.m. CT in the first round of action at the Parkway Bank Softball Complex in Rosemont, Ill.
