OMAHA, Neb. – Matthew Fayers has been named interim head coach of the Creighton University Cross Country and Track programs, McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom announced on Wednesday, July 1st.
Fayers' appointment fills the void left when Chris Gannon stepped down as head coach of both programs on June 18th.
Fayers recently completed his eighth season at Creighton, serving the last five as an assistant coach after previously spending three years as a graduate assistant under Gannon. CU has consistently rewritten the record book in both sports since the duo arrived in 2018, breaking 74 school-records in that time.
"Matthew Fayers has done an outstanding job helping to grow our cross country and track programs during his time at Creighton. His understanding and appreciation of our values as well as his commitment to a positive student-athlete experience make him the right person to guide this program during this transition," said Blossom.
Originally from Ickenham, England, in the greater London area, Fayers was an All-American runner at Oklahoma State. He graduated with his bachelor's in Health and Physical Education Fitness in 2018 and earned his master's degree in Education while at Creighton in 2021.
