Duray’s First Half Goal Propels Women’s Soccer to 1-0 Shutout Over Kansas City for First Win of the Season

OMAHA, Neb. – Bolstered by a first half goal from senior Olivia Duray, the Creighton women's soccer team captured its first win of the season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Kansas City on Thursday, Aug. 27 in the Bluejays home opener.
With the win, Creighton captured its 200th home win all-time while improving to 1-2-1 on the season and to 23-10-5 all-time in home openers. Kansas City, meanwhile, fell to 0-3-1 overall as the Bluejays extended its unbeaten streak to 16 straight matches against Summit League opponents.
The Bluejays controlled possession throughout the opening 45 minutes, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute (17:25) as Duray netted her second goal of the season. The Illinois native built the early lead on her own, recovering a failed clear and beating a Kansas City defender with a shifty move before chipping a shot into the back of the net for the lone goal of the match.
Creighton's defense limited Kansas City to just three shots in the opening but were unable to capitalize on several dangerous scoring opportunities to extend their lead before the break.
Hanging on to a 1-0 advantage, Creighton continued to apply immense pressure throughout the second half, racking up seven shots, including multiple shots on frame from freshman Lorel Stringer and Cassidy Horton.
Junior Morgan Paley and fifth-year Kailey Hall goalkeeper were never really tested in goal, collecting their second straight goal. The goalkeeping duo becomes the first Bluejay goalkeepers to record two combined shutouts when both keepers logged at least 45 minutes since 2009.
Creighton closed the match with a sizeable 13-6 lead in shots, while retaining a 5-3 advantage in corners attempted.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. as they host Missouri at Morrison Stadium.
