Mike Maker is beginning his first season as an assistant coach at Creighton.
Maker, who has 20 years of coaching experience, spent the previous two seasons working for John Beilein at West Virginia.
The 2005-06 West Virginia team finished 22-11 and reached the Sweet 16 after beating Southern Illinois and Northwestern State in the NCAA Tournament.
Last year, the Mountaineers finished 27-9 and claimed the school’s first NIT title since 1942.
Prior to heading to Morgantown, Maker spent three seasons (2002-05) as an assistant coach at Samford, where he worked for Jimmy Tillette.
Maker also spent 11 seasons at Dartmouth (1991-2002), where he served as associate head coach. While at Dartmouth, Maker served as the recruiting coordinator and director of scouting while also assisting with practice, game preparation and scheduling. In 1999 he helped coach Ian McGinnis, who led the nation in rebounding. Maker worked for head coach Dave Faucher at Dartmouth.
A member of the North Salinas High Hall of Fame, Maker continued his playing career at Hartnell College, where he played for two seasons before transferring to California Baptist. At California Baptist, he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1988. Maker earned his master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University in 1990.
