Paul Harvey is in his fifth season as a volunteer assistant on the Creighton coaching staff. The NAIA All-American defender at Newman University (Kan.) joined the Bluejay staff in 2004 following a one year stint as an assistant coach at his alma mater.
“Paul goes above all his other commitments to his soccer club and family to volunteer his time with us,” said head coach Bob Warming. “He is a great addition as a player and person to the staff. He brings a different perspective to the staff, since he did not play for me, and I enjoy hearing his ideas about the team and training.”
A native of Coventry, England, Harvey earned All-America recognition each of his four seasons at Newman. As a freshman, sophomore and senior, he earned honorable mention NAIA All-America notice, while he won third-team All-America laurels during his junior campaign in 2001.
Harvey earned all-Region IV accolades for his defensive play while at Newman. He was also twice tabbed the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year along with earning several MCAC Defensive Player of the Week nods. The Jets owned a 14-4-3 record and a carried a No. 21 national ranking during his senior season.
The defender not only excelled on the field, he also earned Daktronics NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete notice and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in management from Newman in 2003.
Harvey’s wife, Julie, is a teacher in the Millard School District. The couple lived in Troon, Scotland, prior to attending Newman University.
