Air Force Narrowly Edges Men's Tennis

In three very closely
contested doubles matches, Air Force came away victorious at No. 1 and No. 3,
while Creighton won flight two. In the top doubles match, the Falcons' Brett
Rodgers and Taylor Soster defeated CU's Nikita Dudar and Joe Eckert, 8-5. At
No. 2 doubles, Creighton's Jose Guerra and Brian Ward edged Air Force's Austin
Francis and James Tomlin by a score of 8-6. The Falcons took No. 3 doubles, as
Johnny Buckingham and Michael Gies outlasted CU's James McAvoy and Michael
Elson, 9-7.
After Air Force's Rodgers
defeated Guerra (6-2, 6-1) in No. 1 singles, the Bluejays were able to come
away with victories in flights two, three and four. At No. 2, CU's Dudar
battled back to beat Francis, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Jays' Eckert defeated Tomlin
of Air Force (6-4, 6-3) in No. 3 singles, while McAvoy came away a winner at
No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Soster.
The Falcons were able to win
flights five and six to ensure the team's 4-3 victory. Buckingham of Air Force
defeated Ward, 7-6, 6-4, in No. 5 singles, while Greg Ferry defeated CU's Elson
by scores of 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
The Jays will be back in
action on Friday, Feb. 1, in their home opener against
